STATEMENT: Dance Gavin Dance Kicking Out Jonny Craig

It’s hit the net like wildfire. Dance Gavin Dance booting scam artist and addict Jonny Craig from the band. Dance Gavin Dance‘s official statement reads as follows:

“When Jonny rejoined Dance Gavin Dance, we were about to call it quits. Tired of touring and being away from home for 8 months of the year, we wanted to shake things up. We thought it’d be fun to do a dbm sequel with Jonny and go out on that. We recorded dbm2 and felt it would be a disservice to our fans not to let them hear the new record live. We did a tour and felt rejuvenated but Jonny wasn’t in a good place. After trying to convince him into getting help over warped tour, we canceled a headliner in November/December 2011 and told him we wouldn’t tour until he sought out real help for his addiction. We got our good friend Matt Geise to fill in for a short run we did earlier this year while Jonny was in rehab. He was released and wanted to be out on the road immediately. We weren’t sure how things would go so we only booked a small portion of the all stars tour to see if Jonny could still function as our lead singer. After a week and a half things were not going well. Everything came to a head when Jonny was publicly scolded by the owner of sumerian records for multiple offenses. It was then that we realized that our time with Jonny had reached its end. We wish Jonny the best In his future endeavors but he will no longer be a part of DGD. We however will continue playing and writing music because it’s what we love doing.”

Jonny Craig‘s official statement:

“By now you have all heard that I’m no longer with Dance Gavin Dance. I’ve decided its time for me to focus on my solo project moving forward. I appreciate my time in Dance Gavin Dance, but its time for me to move on and concentrate on my solo career. I wish the best for those dudes and the success of Dance Gavin Dance. I have a solo tour in the UK in October and will be announcing a Full US Tour shortly. Stay tuned for the next chapter in Jonny Craig’s career.”

You know i love Jonny but its best for DGD to move on if he’s causing them a lot of problems. I think Jonny needs help and that doesn’t mean tweeting him saying he fucked up. That doesn’t help anyone.

I hate to say it but dance gavin dance isn’t going to be the same…. Jonny pretty much was the piece that completed them, kurt was so-so, but not jonny….
I myself have a heroin addiction, it causes pain and hurt for all those around you that love and care about you….I know first hand..
It doesn’t help to bash on anyone because addiction is a hard thing to make it through. Jonny will stop when he is truly ready and not a second before, there is no miracle treatment or medication to make him all better, it just doesn’t work that way…
Jonny craig is my favorite vocalist, on the other hand i’m not a fan too much of the solo stuff. I hope things will get better for him and that somehow he can fix things in his life and get a new band together or rejoin dgd. I just know it will take some time to change who he has become, he didn’t get that way over night so he won’t change over night either….
Take care jonny aka the only ginger with a soul….
