TOOL: Promise “Slight Twisted” Big Day Out 2011 Show but NO New Music

TOOL are promising a “solid” and “slightly twisted” show when they headline the Big Day Out next year – but they won’t be showcasing any new songs.

TOOL will close the main stage when they perform at next year’s Big Day Out. Touring Down Under for the first time in four years, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor take a break from the studio where they have been working on a follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days.

They last headlined the event in 2007 and it’s been four years since they released an album, but bassist Justin Chancellor said the Los Angeles-based band had decided not to play any new material on this tour.

“It’s a rule of ours not to do that. A lot of ideas for albums sometimes come from jams that we’ve included in songs live, so there might be a little peppering of ideas you’ll hear in songs later … but to play a (new) song now would be unfaithful to the song.”

He admitted the set would be different to that performed in 2007, which included a trippy laser show, a human electric orb ball display and former System of a Down front man Serj Tankian – who guested on their 1993 hit Sober.

“We’ve talked about the Big Day Out. There’s going to be a lot of fantastic new music there. We’re really honoured to have been asked to do it and pretty much our role is going to be to close it with a really solid Tool set.

“We did a tour in the States this summer and a couple of old songs we bought back, reworked a couple of (others). We’ve got some movements in each song, little jams we’ve come up with.

“It will be greatest hits, but slightly twisted.”

…but what of new TOOL music?

“The wait will be worth it. We’ve all talked about it and we realised if we are going to pull off something that’s going to be worthy and remarkable it’s going to take a little bit longer this time”

I’m having a hard time believing there’s someone out there who doesn’t like TOOL. WTF? Obviously there are unenlightened souls who don’t know the meaning of great music, brilliant writers and performers. Their loss. Very sad for you. You don’t know what you are missing.

Part I can understand they don’t want to leak to pirates but they can’t even release a fucking single?

Rush put out a new single this past year. 2 new songs and their tour was a big success.

Tool I guess can tour just based on their reputation and hardcore fan base. Makes me wonder if an album won’t be out next year but 2012 or even 2013 with APC going on.

  3. Pb says:

Tool owes you nothing stop complaining and either enjoy what they give you our don’t its your choice

  4. Andy says:

Anyone who makes a negative comment about Tool should be ignored, they should wind their skinny redneck head head and get educated. Decent music has what is called longevity, Tool are one if not the only modern band who’s music is worth the price you pay for the CD. Just because you don’t get it! Tw@t, I mean you 57SOP. What does SOP stand for Sucker of Penis of Sort of Peado?

Just saw BDO in auckland, NZ. AMAZING! They did a 12min version of Laturalus that was incredible. Check it out on youtube.

  6. ToolHead says:

Tool will release it when it’s all good. I’ve waited 5 years for a new CD/Album before and it was definitely worth the wait. In the meantime, listen to their older music. I never ever get tired of it. When they are done, we will be rewarded with some awesome shit. No doubt.

  7. Neuro says:

I’ve been feinding for a new album and can’t fucking wait! If it’s anything like 10,000 Days I’ll be more than happy. That is with less “filler” tracks…

  8. Reason(voice of) says:

Tool is the Zeppelin of our time. Like, love or hate, you gotta respect. The new album will be worth it and to talk shit about a band because they want to protect their art instead of exploiting it like so many new bands is just greedy and simple-minded. Be Patient and wait it out.

  9. Toolhead says:

    I’m from the
“Led” generation and must say they pretty much cranked out albums pretty reguarly. TOOL have become artists and fine art takes time to complete. I cant wait for their new concert tour.

  10. The Patient says:

No matter who you listen too or what you say about any rock band…TOOL by far is hands down the best rock band period. Now i’m not just saying that because i am a die hard fan. but you ask anyone who has seen one of there concerts, they will tell you that no one puts on a better show then they do. And to all who are loyal fans… you know they take awhile to put out a new album. But in the end… it is worth the wait……

    Spiral out.

  11. Mainline2011 says:

Love this music! can”t wait for a new album:D
what tool head says is so true, I never get tired of the music

  12. ToolHead says:

To “the patient” -- I totally agree with you. The Mona Lisa wasn’t painted in a day. Everything Tool does is sheer genius and don’t let their egos get in the way of making a perfect blent of sights and sounds. I can wait.

  13. Andy Marshall says:

It’s a pretty ignorant statement to say Tool are shit, one of the best drummers in the world, one of the best guitarists in the world, one of the best basists in the word and the LEGEND that is Maynard James Keenan.

Tool albums take years to get into, they are the only band that are worth the price of their CD these days.

So all you Tool haters, go and get your copy of Smash Hits, role it up and stick it up yer hole!

To all Tool fans -- Can’t wait for this album, I think it’s going to be a cracker! Spiral Out!

  14. toolhead says:

I’lve heard (not official) that new CD will be out some time in 2012. Maynard is touring with Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Would love to see them but saving my money for the ’12 Tool tour. Why would someone who hates Tool even come to this website except just to be a total fucktard and irritate people. Fuck’em.

  15. london says:

What is the most recent Tool album name
    thanks :)
