Peter Steele Confirmed Dead at 48

TYPE O NEGATIVE singer/frontman Peter Steele has been confirmed dead at the age of 48. The legendary frontman Peter Steele is rumored to have passed away due to heart failure. His passing was first reported by metal blogess Mistress Juliya on the social networking tool Twitter. The cause of death was apparently confirmed by Kenny Hickey, bassist for the band Peter Steele fronted – TYPE O NEGATIVE.

  • “He passed of heart failure today. Just spoke to Kenny.”
  • “Today is a very sad day in metal. End of an era. Peter Steele passed today. I loved my friend…our idol…my heart is with his band and family…

Peter Steele was previously rumored to have died in 2005, when an image of a tombstone was posted to the group’s website bearing his name. The announcement turned out to be a hoax. Peter Steele had recently been thought to have overcome his long-standing cocaine and alcohol dependencies.

Peter Steele was born in 1962 and released seven studio albums with TYPE O  NEGATIVE between 1991 and 2007.

I knew Peter from the neighborhood and although he was portrayed as peculiar guy he was actually quite a nice guy to talk to.

I remember at a TON show @ Irving Plazza I was backstage hanging out with the band and Peter signed my TON sweatshirt.

He will be truely missed. I’m just glad he found himself before dying, how ironic.
    R.I.P Peter

    Something is fishy.
If he died 14th April there is no way in hell the cause of death could be confirmed that fast, that usually takes weeks.

I remember hanging out in local Brooklyn parks with friends with my band-sticker-covered boom box cranking the pure sludge of ‘Subhuman’ as loud as possible. They were all just a bunch of local guys doing their very original thing without any real pretense; no rock-star bullshit. We dug them at L’Amours and skanked in the pit with neighborhood friends. It was a good scene back in those days. Listen to his music and hear the sound of perseverance. An original if there ever was. Rest easy Pete…..

A very, very sad day… I am thankful that I got to see them 4 or 5 times and will always cherish the memories… On of the greatest bands, nobody was like them… You will allways be missed R.I.P. Mr. Steele

Petrus T. Ratajczyk (January 4, 1962[1] – 14 April, 2010[2]), better known by his stage name Peter Steele was the lead singer, BASSIST, and composer for the Gothic metal band Type O Negative. Steele, who stood 6′ 7″ (201 cm) tall, had a low, bass heavy voice, which is one of the most recognizable features in Type O Negative’s music. Before joining Type O Negative, he played for the metal group Fallout and the thrash band Carnivore.

I havent listened to their music in a long time, but it was once a part of my life. I had the pleasure of seeing them play at L’emurs. Kenny’s mom, wife wand friends worked with me. Typo was always the topic. May Peter be at peace and give the one’s who were close to him the strength they need to get through this.

I am soo sad to hear this news. He was at the top of list of sexy men. I loved his deep hyptnotizing voice. He was an awesome musician, I love to dance to Type O-, the music just moves through me. I once gave him a dead (dried) red rose I had carried (mostly between my teeth) throughout the show. He responded very sweetly.
I lit a candle for your transition, farewell on your journey….

  32. Brandon says:

His passing is truely a sad day for me, I will miss his musical fusion. One of my favorites since the days of Carnivore. The music world has lost another great talent. R.I.P. brother. you will never be forgotten.

Type O Negative was introduced to me by a friend many years ago. Since then The music has become a part of my life. I saw Peter many times in concert. Most memorable was at the Masquerade in Atlanta where he played in Silhouette with back lights. He was just HUGE! Such a large man. Now I see hes dead and it humbles me. September Son brings chills as does Love you to Death…which I think are Peters best. I will miss the deep rumbling voice that shook ampitheatres so many times. I personally will never forget.RIP

  34. T.J. Garland says:

Type O Negative, My all time favorite band. We have lost an incredible and original musical talent. I pray Peter is finally at peace. He was truly a musical genuis.

  35. Jay Girl says:

Well thinking back to what he said in the interview on the dvd symphony for the devil….
The band was asked “how could you imagine your self dying” and Peter said “it doesn’t matter as long as I had made a difference in the world”….

Looking at all these comments… How much he will be missed, how much his lyrics reached out to people… How the bands music changed peoples lives it seems…

I know growing up I’ve always fought depression… And this bands music helped me through a lot of my own personal battles….

I can only truly speak for my self when I say you made a difference in my world…

Looks like his wish came true…. You’ve made a difference in the world…

    RIP…

  36. HE DIED ON MY FUCKING BIRTHDAY!!!FUCK!!

  37. Peter,I sensed a lot of pain coming from you through your music and it was genuine no fake act. I can see why your heart gave out. Sensitivity in you was very intense and tells me that you really knew what true love is.The wrong person broke your heart so deeply and it proves that you can really die from a broken heart because yours was totally crushed. I should know, mine was totally crushed as well. May God Bless You my friend, and open up the skys of heaven to receive you. Like Jesus said,”Blessed are you that weep and moan, for one day you shall laugh, RIP MY LOVE,see you in heaven.” KATHY
