Underoath Guitarist Doesn’t Like Metallica
UNDEROATH guitarist Tim McTague expressed how he feels about Metallica in a new interview with Metal Hammer:
“When we were on tour in 2006/7, the tour manager for Anti-Flag was talking to me, and he asked what my favourite Metallica record was. I said I didn’t have one. Not that I liked them all, but I didn’t like any. He was like ‘what?!’ I said I didn’t like them, I didn’t think they were any good. He got really startled then almost offended. He was literally slamming the bar saying, ‘there is no F-ing way you play the music you do, the way you do, and not like Metallica’.
I can listen to that stuff, and maybe if I was alive 30 years ago it would mean more to me; I respect them, but I just don’t like them. I get that they’re important, but not to me. For me Kurt Cobain means more: he played like trash but he had an intensity. It’s not about your chops, it’s about creating a feeling.
People can say, ‘if it wasn’t for Metallica, you wouldn’t have a scene to play to’, I’ll give them that, but I still don’t like them. Maybe one day I’ll look back, having changed my mind about Metallica, and think what a stupid 25 year old I was.”

No feeling in their songs? Is he fucking mad, I am not a big Metallica fan in the slightest, but this retard doesn’t deserve to even utter their name. ‘One’ has more feeling in one verse than this punk has in a lifetime. Go to a Metallica concert and tell me their isnt any feeling.

For the record, I don’t like Underoath. But I would have said the same thing, if someone asks me if I like Metallica, I’m not gonna lie and say yes. Sure, they’re talented but that doesn’t mean I have to like them. I’m a Christian and the reason I don’t like Metallica isn’t because they don’t come to my church to play. And for the record, the term “Jesus Freak” is probably the gayest term I’ve ever heard to label someone who follows Jesus. Find some new insults for someone who chooses to believe in something. That’s all.

I fucking abhor Underoath, but really, I’ve never liked Metallica’s music, but I don’t hate them. I grew up on a very much different metal sound, Samael, Katatonia, The Gathering, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Amorphis and so on and Metallica just doesn’t do anything for me at all.
