EDGE The Movie: A Straight Edge Documentary
28 years after MINOR THREAT released the song “Straight Edge”, hundreds if not thousands of kiddies have drawn X’s on their hands with sharpies and donned camo shorts and baseball hats. Without faiil, the drugfree counterculture has become a worldwide phenomenon. Now, to celebrate it, a documentary has been put together. The documentary EDGE offers perspectives on drugfree culture traces this subculture, from its early roots in the beginning of the 1980s to this day by drawing a very differentiated and diverse picture through in-depth interviews of 10 individuals. EDGE takes the viewer behind and beyond the scenes of Straight Edge: the people living the idea, how it changed their lives and what it means to them on a very personal level.
Furthermore, Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Ray Cappo (Youth of Today/Shelter) and Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis) give witness to their perception of the history of Straight Edge.

I find it strange that the reaction that most people who drink or do drugs give when they see anything to do with sober culture is to mention all the drugs that they do in the messages they write after they right “fag” and “homo” thirteen or fourteen times in the same message.
I’m going to bet that most of the negative views you have towards straight edge have come from some badly done TV documentary series, or maybe the one, maybe two, straight edge kids you have actually come in contact with. What if I judged everyone who drinks that same way? ( I woke this morning to my neighbors barking at cars when they drove by while doing keg stands because apparently it’s “game day”) Don’t try lumping people into one group or another, it doesn’t work like that.

I am straight edge. but I agree that its turned into a bunch of dudes trying to look tough because they don’t drink and smoke. I live my life the way I do because its my choice. I’m not tryin to look tough cuz I’m not. I’m a little dude.
Some FSU punks showed up to one of my football games. After we lost we were in a really shitty mood and just wanted to change up and get out of there. On our way out the gate some of these pricks got in our face and called our our starting middle linebacker (who by the way is 6′1″ 215lbs) and our best defensive lineman(6′5″ 320) not to mention our fullback, tailback and one of our friends from the stands. These kids got in their faces, cussed, pushed and shoved and vandalized some cars. They weren’t big kids, probably between 5′8″ and 6′ and mostly between 165-190lbs. I’d say 6 of 11 of them were all tatted up and had long, greasy hair. Their leader of sorts was the first to throw a punch at our linebacker, who proceeded to beat the living fuck out of the kid and the rest fought as well. Our friend that’s not on the team was stabbed and hospitalized and 7 of the kids got arrested. These pussies had no reason to be there and they payed the price big time. Our principal witnessed the whole thing and covered for all the local kids in the fight. My friend’s dad is a police officer and said their local police station in Roxbury (just outside Boston) had warrants out for 9 of the kids there. Just a little background on what these kids are like. I live about an hour outside of Boston by the way.
Man its sad how people wanna say one group is bad just by a select few who happen to be part of a whole are stupid.
I am straight edge and am 21 years old tech major at UCLA I have Xd up many of times and wear that like a badge of honer.
Let me tell you guys a story I was a sickly little kid I spend most my childhood and early teens in a hospital. In my time there I made many good friends but the drawback to making friends in the hospital is they will die far to soon. So one day after my roommate in the hospital died I went into a deep thought. When someone close to you dies you wish you pray you beg for just one more moment with them I decided myself I would never waste a moment on getting high or stoned and I would instead live every moment of my life.
I think must drug users hide behind how many drugs they can do so no one realizes there just scared the other side could be right and they very well could be losers.
Straight edge people get pissed cause they feel like everyone is attacking them as are subculture is so much smaller then most.
