Killswitch Engage Reveal Album Title, Cover Art For Upcoming Release
Massachusetts’ finest hard rock purveyors, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, have announced the title for their eagerly anticipated fourth album for Roadrunner Records. The title is Killswitch Engage. The album, produced by Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine) and co-produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, will hit stores on June 30.
Some of the working track titles for the album include “Reckoning,” “The Forgotten,” “Light in a Darkened World” and “Starting Over.”
Vocalist Howard Jones offered a little insight into Killswitch Engage, saying, “It was time for us to step outside of our comfort zone and try something a little different with this record. It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further.”
The singer also comments on the album being the band’s second self-titled effort of its career, saying, “When we all couldn’t agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed…gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning.”
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have been playing the tentatively titled “Light in a Darkened World” during their set on the Music As A Weapon Tour, where they are serving as main support to DISTURBED.
The band also performed the song as the opening act of the first annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards , where they also covered “Holy Diver”. The awards and performance will be broadcast on MTV2 on May 2.

Pretty sure their first album is s/t as well…
I’m pretty sure that KsE is still terrible to date
I’m pretty sure you should shut the hell up.
not feeling the cover. purple?
When bands use terms and descriptions like the ones mentioned above, it’s usually just a fancy way of saying “we made a more mainstream/accessible record”.
But hey, KSE isn’t the first band to go that route. Testament, Anthrax, Megadeth, even Kreator – they all attempted to branch out to more accessible markets at some point. So it’s no surprise that KSE may be trying to do the same.
I can’t wait to see them with Slayer and Manson this summer

pretty sure kse has always been a mainstream band so dont have to worry about that
Oh hey, didn’t they already have a self-titled (that’s a joke by the way, in case any of you with thick skulls didn’t get it)
Oh hey, again, didn’t Animosity already do that cover art?
This album is already proving to be the most uninspired album of 2009
“pretty sure kse has always been a mainstream band so dont have to worry about that”
Incorrect. KSE has definitely not always been a mainstream band. Their first two albums didn’t even chart on the billboard, nor receive any RIAA certification. To date, they only have one gold record. I never hear their music on rock radio and I rarely see their videos on TV. I wouldn’t call that mainstream.
god. they fucking blow.,they need to stop already
i think as far as metal goes there pretty mainstream…maybe there are bands out there that are more mainstream but still doesnt mean that there not. i just dont get what they would sound like if they did what you said and went even more mainstream
Killswitch is fucking mainstream, get the fuck over it
The education level of people who post here really shows. I don’t think you guys understand what mainstream means.
This album is going to be amazing. I could care less that the album is self title. Weezer has three self titles (not that i listen to them).
Killswitch is starting to become mainstream. Just because they become mainstream doesnt mean they are “selling out”
Mainstream music denotes music that is familiar and unthreatening to the masses, as for example popular music, pop music, middle of the road music, rap or soft rock; but it should be noted that older generations often have a well-founded dislike for the mainstream taste of the youth, and may not agree as to what is or is not mainstream. Mainstream jazz is generally seen as an evolution of be-bop, which was originally regarded as radical.
Opposing mainstream music is the music of subcultures. This exists in virtually all genres of music and is found commonly in punk rock, indie rock, anti-folk and Heavy Metal, among others. In the 1960s this music was exemplified by the music of the hippie counterculture. In more recent years alternative rock, such as the music of Nirvana, has managed to express musical nonconformity while still working within the confines of the mainstream music market.
Punk rock has distinguished itself from other non-mainstream genres by self-asserting an active anti-mainstream social movement that resists commercialism and corporate control. The punk subculture generally frowns upon major label bands that play punk music that disavows the DIY punk ethic, and views them as synonymous with mainstream music. Punk has lent this stringent DIY ethic to the indie rock that surfaced in the early 1990s underground. Several anti-corporate and not-for-profit forms of alternative protest have surfaced in the punk underground, such as self-made publications know as zines, where there is greater freedom to discuss controversial (usually far left) political issues such as discrimination, LGBT community issues, feminism, antitheism, and veganism. And though often viewed as a youthful expression of rebellion by the mainstream media, modern punk embodies a range of age groups who generally disagree with the perceived homogeneity of countercultural principals and it is not uncommon for middle-aged people to form punk houses and resistance movements in the face of what they view as the widespread, unfair exploitation of human and animal rights. This modern faction is dominantly voiced through the anarcho-punk and crust punk subcultures, in attempt to combat what is seen by those groups as a general devaluation of, and profitization from, life.
Its a good thing they are mainstream cause it opens thr doors to alot of other metal bands to get radio time like All That Remains, Lamb Of God, etc. yes MetallicA, Pantera, Slipknot is on the radio but this is good for the expansion and soon to be take over, of the mainstream by METAL
i agree. who gives a fuck if their mainstream or not. i don’t care if you like KSE or not but it would be good for metal to have mainstream artists
Alive Or Just Breathing is the only release by them I liked at all. It’s the style they should have stayed with. Regardless if they are mainstream or not their recent albums have been boring and bland.
YEAH FUCK HOWARD HES A LITTLE BITCH
Killswitch Engage IS mainstream. Theres no doubt about that. Someone who can’t distinguish the difference between mainstream, underground, mainstream underground, radio mainstream, etc will be blind to the fact.
In my opinion, Howard Jones should have stayed with Blood Has Been Shed and Jesse Leech and KSE should have created another album like Alive Or Just Breathing but i believe that that album was a fucking masterpiece. I wanted to see more with Jesse and the boys in KSE as a team, but the ones that agree with me and myself didn’t and won’t EVER get that. =(
“Killswitch Engage IS mainstream.”
thank you all i was trying to do was say as a metal band i dont see how there not mainstream..regardless of what anyone thinks they are i like this band although i wasnt too happy with there last album..hopefully they step it up with this one
fuck you all killswitch is a fucking decent band. You should all fucking die and go off and listen to real fucking mainstream bands like slipnot and fucking disturbed
Ah, the simple arguements going either way, either you love em or you hate em. Almost comparable to NASCAR’s late Dale Earnhardt, loved or hated, he was great. KsE was and still are revolutionary with their content, setting the bar high for even their sister band, Shadows Fall. If you don’t believe me, watch the Set This World Ablaze DVD. But just like with every band, either you love ‘em or you hate ‘em.
Now, to settle this mainstream debate. Alive Or Just Breathing was released under Roadrunner Records, a mainstream label (same label as Nickelback, to put in prospective). Their first self-titled album was released under Ferret Records, an indie label. When AOJB hit the stores, Killswitch Engage became a mainstream band, regardless of popularity. Their music videos were and still are on MTV and MTV2. The only difference is now they have a toned-back sound to appeal to a larger fan base, because more people like the “mainstream” metal than they do straight-up headbanging metal.
My opinion… I love KsE to death, although I appeal to the days of Jesse David Leach. And don’t you dare start the Jesse vs Howard arguement, they both are great, Howard has brought KsE to where they are now, and whether you love em’ or hate em’, they have a large fanbase. So move over, because this engaging, raging band has something to say, whether you like it or not.
