Otep Sign To Victory Records
Victory Records has signed OTEP. The first release under the new alliance is Otep’s highly anticipated fourth full-length studio album Smash the Control Machine. The new studio album will be released August 18, 2009.
Vocalist Otep Shamaya says of the album, “The economic crisis is hitting every working family in this country. The album and its title track, Smash The Control Machine, will lay bare the greed and corruption that fostered this calamity, but will also focus on the undying spirit of the working class that always fights the good fight. The title is a line from a William S. Burroughs poem. It is my intention to create an album that serves every head of the hydra that is Otep. From poetry, to politics, to shock and awe, to sex and righteousness, to standing up and fighting back. Like the mystical symbol of the Ouroboros (the sacred serpent swallowing its tail) all things will be brought back to circle.”

worst band ever.
I had the displeasure of seeing Otep once. they were playing at an outdoor metalfest in Tampa. you want to talk about suck? these guys could barely play their instruments (how the fuck are they popular) and the chick singer isn’t even hot. her atrocious voice made me want to shove a screw driver into both of my ears just to make it stop. there was nowhere to hide at the fest, everywhere you went you could still hear this terrible band loud and clear. it was pure agony.
Economic crisis? She’ll know a real economic crisis after dealing with Victory and not seeing a single cent of the records they’ll somehow sell. I have no clue how this band still exists.

i will download it not buy it. Musically their is nothing special about this band. Vocally she can scream and adds some good effects to the mics. Lyrically you either love it hate it or ignore it.
They arent the worst band ever and certainly not the best they are what they are.

That is the only demographic which could find any relevance in her lyrics and be so apt to defend somebody like her. Otep, who actually refers to herself as that when she’s talking (band mates of mine have had the misfortune of touring with her before) is a self indulgent bitch who just thinks that she’s deep. She’s just another dumb slut with shitty tattoos and probably some knife marks somewhere on her legs or arms that carries around a “poetry” book incase she’s given the opportunity to bore somebody for hours on end with it’s meaningless content. She’s a prima donna cunt who will cancel a show that 16 year old girls such as yourself paid good money to see because she can’t hear herself properly in her inner ear monitors. She has no actual vocal ability, it is all studio magic, and even with the help of top dollar studios she still sounds like shit. The only reason, and I do mean the only reason that anybody gives half a fuck about her is because she’s female. If a girl plays in a metal band she’s instantly given more credit than she deserves. Trust me, a guy with the same level of talent would spend his musical career playing in local bars for his friends and girlfriend. Fuck Otep, not that I would with Magic Johnson’s dick.
