Demon Hunter – Live In Nashville

I’ve always looked at the nature of a live album as a turning point in a bands’ career as it will either catapult them to the next level of success due to the average listener catching the vibe that the band has in a live forum (ala KISS with Alive) or the live album turns out to be something special for the dedicated fanbase that showcases their connection with their ‘true fans’ which is what we have here with DEMON HUNTER and their Live In Nashville release.

While there is almost a chill producing nature when the Nashville crowd sings along with the chorus to Lead Us Home, it also shows that in some instances vocalist Ryan Clark can struggle with some of the studio material live. This isn’t to say he’s not a talented singer and he can pull off a song like Undying which is more demanding in the clean passages. I respect the band for putting forth an effort that may show the human nature to this effort as opposed to the perfection that we heard on Unleashed In The East (or Unleashed In The Studio) from JUDAS PRIEST. There is minimal talk from the stage between songs but DH makes it a point to mention their fans and the mail they receive reinforcing that this album is for them which is something many bands can learn from when making a connection to those who support their careers.

DH is a tight unit live where the musicianship is together and the timing is not disproportionate to the studio version. And while this might not bring in a new audience for the band, I remain a fan of the band and wait for the day when they take that extra step outside of their norm to truly define themselves.
