36 Crazyfists – The Tide And Its Takers
36 CRAZYFISTS that has flown under the radar even though releasing albums through Roadrunner and Ferret and having many cross country treks with established bands. Their sound has not been that far developed to make them stand out and make people take notice to launch their career to the next level hence why I have heard the term “permanent opener” used in reference to 36CF.
The Tide And Its Takers while a good album, still does not possess the potency of enough power to take them where they need to go in order to take a stand. We do have some good tracks like We Gave It Hell and Waiting On A War which starts softly but then grows a rockin groove where the band seems to find a comfort zone that they should start to explore more. Unfortunately it seems they spend a lot of time chasing ground from where GLASSJAW could possibly be going these days as opposed to their sound I first heard when a friend shopped me their original demo and they had a flair of, dare I say, SYSTEM OF A DOWN but they didn’t manage to pull it all off at the same level. It appears they chase a sound they like instead of playing music that comes naturally.
I do hear signs of hope for 36CF in the above mentioned tracks or even Absent Are The Saints, but I still feel they need to work on developing their own comfort zone a little more as that will allow them to garner the respect they deserve for their persistency in a scene that continues to deliver band after band after band. I’m not writing them off completely, but hope time on the road and some input from a different producer might help them achieve something a bit more.

I used to love this band but they went too Everytime I Die-ish. I still think they’re second album, A Snowcapped Romance is their best.
I am surprised that this band, and this record label, still exist.
I’m also surprised that black metal warriors from the northern forest still exist. Did you miss a few churches in Bergen?
I don’t need your ridicule. I am kvlt.
Right. I’m sure you’re as kvlt and gr1m as Euronymous and Varg put together.
This is a really good band. And they’re from Alaska, which is just fucking cool.
Haha! Get it??? Alaska? Cool? God, I’m funny!
I saw them in NY and thought they sucked before I went to the show. When i saw them play I was even more disgusted with them.
i saw them touring w/ gojira, all that remains, and in flames. at that time they were my 2nd favorite metal band behind lamb of god. omfg they owned, they would’ve stolen the night if not for those gojira bastards being so god damn good live! hahaha. anyways this was an amazing release by them. 10/10
I saw them tour with Mayhem and Varg’s Eternal Sorrovv. I cast eternal blindness on them.
36 is sweet i think, but what do i know? i listen to mos def and the roots too. so i guess my metal sense is a little off..
36CF are hands down more kickass then most of the music out there right now. The fact that they “only open” for big names just means that those “Big Names” recognize them as being good.
