Democratic Senator from Illinois Barack Obama has won the U.S. presidential election, becoming the first African-American in the nation’s history to do so. While you’re bracing yourself for all the impending change that will be taking place over the next four years, feel free to post your thoughts on this historic event in the comments.

Ducky I agree with you 100% I think that’s what all people fail to understand that experiences wise you had the pick between a lesser educated vice president nominee (Palin)or an educated president nominee (McCain) visa versa with Obama and Biden but if you ask me if any Republican ran this election other than McCain they would have lost the country was looking for a non Conservative way of getting the country out of the mess that was created by the Bush Administration. No Republican had any shot in hell of winning just because Bush did such an outstanding job in office.
When Obama refers to change he means not having another Republican in office because it could quite possibly have turned into SSDD or in this case SSDP (President)
Everyone has their own views on this topic arguing about it is just like on huge circle jerk the Democrats jerk each other off the Republicans jerk each other off and the only thing that you’re left with at the end is on soggy ass cookie and all of you are arguing who gets to eat the cookie. The election is over Obama is the president and if you have any respect for the country respect the President even if he isn’t your number one choice. Because bitching about it isn’t going to change the fact that Obama is still president and McCain isn’t.

Most people who are unhappy about Obama are complaining that black people only voted for him cause he’s black, but white people voted for him too and that’s why he’s in. The black population of voters is minimal to the white ones. We don’t need another Bush Administration. Mcain could have had a better chance had he not picked Palin.

they both suck ass, but at the same time… they were both infinitely better than bush. On top of that, Obama will be assassinated, and McCain would have died, and when it comes down to the VP… well lets just say Palin is a joke. Literally. She did it to herself.

And by the way, right now “socialism” (ie. the New Deal Mk. II) is precisely what you need to stop the US economy entering a depression. Go read your Galbraith while Greenspan commits ritual suicide. Also, despite the tradition of the Republicans being the party of small government, historically the Democrats have actually reduced the size of government, while the Republicans have expanded it. The US government is the biggest it’s ever been, because when it comes to government spending, Republicans have time and time again shown themselves to be hypocrites.
More fodder: over here is Australia, we have really restrictive gun laws, and really vibrant democracy. Plus, like every first world nation on earth except the US, we have universal public health insurance – it’s cheaper for everyone, and far few people suffer from preventable illness, and no-one’s saddled down with unpayable medical bills. Plus, we also recently elected a government who are scarpering from Iraq as fast as they responsibly can, because it’s a fucking quagmire which can’t be won militarily.

If Ditka would have ran for the senate in 2004 Obama would not even been elected to the senate, and he was thinking about it, but decided not to. Even further i would rather have ditka running the country then obama or mccain cause ditka is a proven leader.
