While I’ve always had a liking for this sound, I had never had an impulse to dive into the world of the vikings commonly known as AMON AMARTH as more than a casual listener. But recently I found myself digging through my CD collection and came across The Crusher gave it another listen, and found myself remembering musical glories from my past. As those thoughts and album ran through my head I realized it was time for these guys to put out another album and here we are listening to Twilight Of The Thunder God.
While at times I think the band might grow to new levels if some of the vocal passages reflected the melodic nature in tunes like “Varyags Of Miklagaard” or “Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags”, I have to respect them for what they do and how they do it even though the vocals seem more suitable for tracks like “No Fear For The Setting Sun” and the title track. The stark contrast between the stereotypical Death Metal Growl postioned above the guitar melodies of “Free Will Sacrifice” do not detract myself from singing this song later in the day hours after the listen. All in all, this album should not only move the deeper rooted AMON AMARTH fan, but should open doors as metal continues to invite new fans on a daily basis.
