MTV.com reports: Last week, Australia’s Beat magazine ran an article on New Jersey’s THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, in which guitarist Ben Weinman said he’d once witnessed one of DISTURBED’s soundchecks and spotted something rather curious. “[They were] practicing where they were going to walk and when they were going to put their leg up on the monitor and pose,” Weinman said. “That was weird for us. There are times [during live gigs] where I don’t even know where I am.”
Weinman’s remarks were an obvious dig at DISTURBED, who release their fourth studio effort, Indestructible, on June 3. It’s not the first time DILLINGER have started beef with a band, and it probably won’t be the last. But when asked about the claims about their “onstage posing,” DISTURBED guitarist Dan Donegan seemed stupefied.
“I never even remember meeting these guys, and I think we know anybody that’s even in the room during our soundchecks, so that’s shocking to me, because I would think that we would have met them if they were standing there during our soundcheck,” Donegan said. “That’s funny. When we do a bigger production, there may be certain lighting cues for certain highlights of the show, but I wouldn’t call it ‘posing,’ just a cue for our lighting guy, so he can add more drama to the set. If [DILLINGER] sold some records, and were at the level we’re at, maybe they’d see that, for bands like KISS and METALLICA, there are certain highlight points during a set that you want to focus on. If I’m going to go over to one spot and do a guitar solo, my lighting guy may need to know that, so he can focus in on that.”
“If that’s posing, then so be it,” the guitarist continued. “To me, I don’t think we talk about when we’re going to put our foot up on a monitor. That’s just silly. It’s a natural thing we do. Those guys can say whatever they want. If that’s supposed to be a jab at us, am I offended? I don’t give a sh–. If they’re saying it because they’re haters, why? Because we sell millions of records and lots of tickets? It sounds more like jealousy to me.”

DEP not selling as many records as Disturbed does not have to do with anything. Clearly the fame that Disturbed has experienced has gone to their heads. This fame has also caused them to be less natural and less “down to earth”. DEP on the other hand is in the business not for fame, but for the music. They are by far the more talented band! Fame does not imply talent and having talent does not make you famous!
So Disturbed should deflate their heads and realize where the real talent lies.
But that is doubtful.

ehh i understand i guess. they are rock stars. and I dont HATE disturbed, ill admit i did like em when i was 16-18. My tastes have matured. I will see em at mayhem tour and wont hate it, especially when im drunk. As someone that has listened to every DEP record gave em a good shot AND got dragged to a headlining show of them, i do agree they are just noise and blow.

Of course Disturbed has sold more records than DEP…they have a much more accessible sound that appeals to mainstream tastes. Bands like DEP require a certain ear and a certain level of appreciation for the abstract and uncontrolled. I totally can understand why some would label them as “noise” or anything of the equivalent. The average music listener would most likely think DEP sucks, but again, most people who listen to DEP simply lack the ability to grasp what they are doing. A band like Disturbed is much easier to swallow. Not saying either band is bad, but it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Clearly both bands have their own sound, scene, and fans.
I don’t think there is much debate on which band has the better musicians, though.

I don’t care what band has more talent or who is better, I have seen them both live plenty of times dillinger as far back as the late 90s with their first singer and disturbed at the first ozzfest they played. The bottom line is DEP are making childish jabs at disturbed for no reason, who cares if they think the way disturbed stand on stage and pose is lame. I am sure there are plenty of people that think taking a shit on stage is pretty lame also or jumping around and throwing mic stands into the crowd, to each their own, but DEP started it and they come across as being childish, even disturbed’s response was more mature.

Disturbed just seem to cement their status as a mainstream “sell-out” band, with their comments about selling more records and playing arena shows. They seem to think a band is made from mainstream success and not their musical talent, and coming from a nu-metal band, its a bit fucking rich
