In Flames – Achieve Billboard and MySpace Success

IN FLAMES’ new release, A Sense of Purpose debuts at #28 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart this week, shifting over 20,000 units in its first week of sales.  A Sense of Purpose, the quintet’s debut release for KOCH Records, and ninth full length album overall, is the highest charting record in the band’s sales history.

A Sense of Purpose also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Album chart and #2 on Billboard’s Hard Music chart.  The Billboard chart positions continue what has been a very exciting week for IN FLAMES; one that also saw the band smash both the Swedish and Nordic MySpace records for the number of plays of an entire album within a one-week period.  IN FLAMES’ A Sense of Purpose was streamed over 1 million times as part of its MySpace “album premiere” for the week ending April 2, 2008.

The numbers make it look huge but in reality I think the album is bad. I actually liked Come Clarity but Ander’s vocals on the new one is his worst I think. It sounds too emo. The music is decent at times but after the first complete listen that was the end. Dark Tranquility will always own In Flames.

Maybe now they truly have found ‘A Sense of Purpose.’

In Flames have always been one of my favorite metal bands of all time but this is probably where I draw the line on buying their albums. Heard it on myspace and was not impressed at all. Actually I was really disappointed.

Oh, they’ve been dead for years. They deserve to make some money now…

Continuing their path to mainstream but if they want a bigger audience, that’s their call. I still like them in concert.

I will say that I like how bands allow new cds to be streamed so you can hear before buying.
