Sirius, XM – Still No Decision On Whether Satellite Companies Can Merge

In today’s edition of “What The Fuck Is Wrong With Our Government?,” we’d like to point out that today marks the one year anniversary of the proposed merger between rivals Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, and there still has been no decision made. We’d like to thank the government for looking out for our best interests as consumers, because…why would anyone want to have all of the sports they like on one receiver? And why would any music lover want a powerful medium to exist that could reach millions of people and actually play independent music? And most of all, why would we want to protect the ability of broadcasters (and musicians) to have their thoughts and art presented in an uncensored format? That would truly be horrifying. So thank you for protecting us, and don’t worry, we know it’s out of the kindness of your hearts, and not the fact you’ve sold your souls to the terrestrial radio industry which is so desperate to see Satellite Radio fail. Obviously that would never be the case…

While I agree that the time frame is ridiculous, why is this article acting like 1 super satellite company would be a utopia. Zero competition in an industry is never beneficial to consumers.

Not to mention that “uncensored” bullshit is a lie. Sirius and XM both censor ideas in their own way. Sure they let curses fly, but they censor in other ways. They’re as shady as terrestrial radio.

Dmoralize- “Zero competition in an industry”? Are you serious?

Exactly how is having 1 satelitte company zero competition? Couldn’t the same be said of terrestrial radio??? First of all, you would have to PAY for satellite. No one would force you to buy Sirius/XM. Second of all, there is TONS of competition.

Examples: Terrestrial radio, Mp3’s, CD’s, Internet radio stations, myspace, itunes, any medium that delivers music/talk. THESE ARE ALL COMPEITORS OF SATELLITE RADIO. Remember…if there’s competition then it CAN NOT be a monopoly.

But the biggest issue isn’t whether or not it is or isn’t a monopoly. Why has this taken a year now?? Why can the government not make a decision? This shouldn’t have taken more than a week to decide….

Also what “ideas” does Sirius and XM censor?
