You’ve recently released your new album, The Cleansing. Are you happy with how it has been received so far?
We couldn’t be happier with the way things are going right now. Fans are buying the record and going nuts at shows.
What was your reaction when you heard that it debuted at number 94 on the Billboard charts?
I wasn’t expecting that at all…one of the highest points in my life for sure. Everything is happening really fast so it’s hard to take it all in sometimes. It’s a great feeling though.
Since you’re a band with such a strong presence on the Internet, and the album did well anyway, does it bother you when people “illegally” download your music?
Nah, in this day and age, illegal downloading is so widespread, there’s no way to really stop it so we’re just happy people are interested in our music. However, it’d be great if fans purchased from iTunes after sampling the tracks.
Do you think it would’ve benefited Metallica’s career/musical output if Lars was crushed by the tour bus instead of Cliff Burton?
Haha nah….they still sell out stadiums, they seem to be doing just fine. But musically, yeah, any historical difference could only have made things better.
What was it like filming the video for “The Price of Beauty,” and did it piss you off when you heard that MTV banned it?
It was very different…jamming the same song for hours on end. It was like playing a 4 hour set as hard as you possibly can. I couldn’t get out of bed for a solid week. We were all pretty bummed about the MTV deal, but what can you do ya know?
How has your latest tour with Unearth gone?
Unbelievable to say the least. We are opening the tour and kids are still coming early to see us. Great times…
Have you ever hit on a chick at a show and it turned out to be a guy?
…..no
You also have a tour with A Life Once Lost, Walls of
Yes, we’re looking forward to it. TKO, our booking agency, turned our trip home into an entire tour. They kick ass.
What do you do to kill time on the long boring drive from show to show?
When everyone is sleeping I listen to my iPod and work on my word search book. Word searches kill time like no other and it’s relaxing.
What is the very first thing you do when you get home from touring?
I get up early in the morning and go look up some courses and go golfing…another relaxing time.
Have you ever met a band and thought to yourself, “thank fucking god that isn’t us”?
Haha, yea…
How do you feel about being labeled “deathcore”?
Doesn’t bother me…people can call us whatever they want.
Suicide Silence seems to be a good example of how the music industry is changing, and how bands are able to more and more take matters into their own hands and promote themselves via the Internet. However, not all the bands benefiting from this are all that original or even good. So do you think sites like MySpace are having a positive or negative impact on the metal scene?
Positive is that it gives bands great exposure and free promotion…and the BIG negative is bands are just looking at trends on myspace and starting bands from what they see and not creating something of their own….and that’s ruining the whole evolution of music…and it’s showing.
Family Guy or The Simpsons. Which is better?
Ahh shit…
You’ll be hitting the road early next year with
Nothing negative has gotten back to us at this point. We don’t really care much for speculation. It’s going to be a fun time winning over the death metal heads, haha. We are all metal kids with dirty long hair. I’m sure we will fit right on in!
Are there any other tour plans currently in the works, and do you think you’ll be trying to get on Ozzfest or the Sounds of the Underground tour next year?
No tours that we can discuss quite yet. Something big over the Summer would rule though!!
Should
No.
What are you currently listening to?
Coldplay - Trouble
Any final words for our readers?
To the fans who made it a point to buy the record thus far. We are grateful for your support. To everyone else, come check us out at a show!
