The Autumn Offering - Sean Robbins, Bass

-For those not yet familiar with The Autumn Offering, describe the band in one sentence.

A bunch of drunken losers, who somehow, someway, are allowed to practice medicine.

-You have a new album coming out on October 30th called Fear Will Cast No Shadow. What was the writing/recording process like this time?

Great! It was hard, but well worth it. Jason pushed us hard, and it paid off. Every time a take went well, Jason would reward us little gold stars that he would put it Matty’s lyric book. Seriously though, it was a difficult but fun record to make. We’re good friends with Jason, so sometime work took a backseat…but we killed it when it mattered.

-What was it like working with Jason Suecof? Any mention of a new Crotchduster CD from him?

Jason’s insane. Probably one of the most gifted producers in the business. He’s a really fun, funny guy. We probably wrote a new Crotchduster album down there!!! When we weren’t recording, we were making up stupid nonsense songs…actually, we had a little project with Jason and Tim of Soil called “Vagina For A Cowgirl”…that’s not a shot at Job For A Cowboy either, just a funny fucking name!

-How has the addition of new vocalist Matt McChesney impacted the band?

More drug connections!! Hahaha. We did two tours with Matt’s old band Hell Within so we got to see him rip clubs apart nightly. Matt has incredible versatility and rage. The new record has everything from death metal vocals to some Bruce Dickinson notes. Plus, Matt can drink like an animal which is a pre-requisite for this band of hooligans.

-Guitarist Ralph Santolla added a guest appearance on the album, how did that come about?

He was just hanging out. Jason’s studio is like the death metal epicenter of Florida. Jack Owen from Cannibal Corpse was hanging out, working on his own new project, Adrift. Ralph killed it in one take, It’s actually Tommy, Jay, and Ralph all together at the end of the song Dystopiate… I believe it goes Tommy, then Jason, followed by Ralph.

-Do you care if your fans, or potential fans, download the album before it’s released?

As long as they buy it after. Everyone has the right to preview something before they purchase it. It’s killing the industry though; I don’t think people are aware just how bad it is. No one is making any money. People downloading records and not buying them is the fastest way to destroy bands of our size. Just buy the fucking record!!

-Have you ever looked at the Victory Records lineup and secretly felt a little ashamed?

I thought the singer of Aiden was hot until I found out it was a dude. I thought it was Ellen Degeneres with her hair dyed black. No man, it’s all good. we don’t hate on anyone. Music is art and everyone expresses it differently. Do we like all the Victory artists’ music? No. but many do and that’s their thing. We’re buddies with Darkest Hour and Between The Buried and Me and they fucking rock. Victory is a great label, they treat us well. Were happy.

-You have some tour dates with Dope coming up soon, how did you hook up with them for this tour?

We just signed with TKO booking and they hooked it up. Simple as that.

-Are there any other tour plans in the works for after that?

We are looking at a few offers now…we will be out until the end of the year though…and all year next year.

-Have you ever hit on a chick at a show and it turned out to be a guy?

Matty made out with a transvestite!! He didn’t know!! Honestly, if you saw this chick, er um guy, you would have too!! He was in the bathroom like Ace Ventura puking in the shower after.

-What’s the first thing you usually do when you get home from a tour?

Well, we like to act out the Buffalo Bill scene where he tucks his junk between his legs. Matt Johnson usually plays the part while we all throw apples at him.

-I’m sure you’ve had your share of detractors who just write you off as “just another metal core band.” What do you think sets The Autumn Offering apart from those other bands, or do you not care about what people label you?

Fuck em. You can’t worry about that shit. We just do our thing and you either like it or you don’t. 99 percent of those people are 30 year old dungeon and dragons veterans whose chances of seeing a vagina are about good as the Dolphins winning the super bowl this year. They can eat our collective assholes.

-Have you ever contemplated punching Glen Benton in the face, or at least had the desire to?

We’d just hire the dude from North Side King’s right? No, Deicide rule. I can think of a million other people I’d rather punch than Glen Benton…like Bea Arthur.

-What do you think about bands like Job For A Cowboy and The Faceless who are becoming huge primarily due to sites like MySpace?

Good for them. MySpace is far better for banging fat girls though.

-Have you ever met a band and thought to yourself, “thank fucking god that isn’t us”?

Yes…but they will remain nameless. There is so much shit slinging in this industry …it’s just silly. Heavy metal is so fucking trendy now. We don’t pay attention, nor do we give a fuck about the so called “rock stars”. we’ll drink with you, do drugs with you, and possibly fuck your sister.

-Are you guys going to try getting on Ozzfest or Sounds of the Underground next Summer?

No we figured we open a pizza shop and only do select VFW dates…of course you we are you pinhead…hahahha.

-Has anyone pointed out to the organizers that none of the bands on the Sounds of the Underground tour are all that…underground?

Well we’ve never had the opportunity to be on sounds of the underground, let alone criticize the depth in the ground in which the bands lay, maybe one day ha.

-What are you listening to lately, or are there any bands you think people need to know about?

Mainly a lot of the old school rock and metal… as far as more or somewhat more current bands go, I’ve been listening to a lot of Blood for Blood and Ramallah… great stuff, definitely give there jams a chance.

-Any final words for our readers?

To everyone who has supported us, from other bands to family’s friends, fans ect ect… thank you so much, it truly means the fucking world to us… We hope to see everyone at a show soon, feel free to come up and hang out… we’ll party with ya and take ya in as one of our own… our fans means the world to us and we will never forget that… without them we are nothing!
