August Burns Red – Messengers
I am having difficulties with some of today’s music scene with the over saturation of bands who follow the course of nature in their scene. We’ve seen it happen at the end of the 80’s with numerous MOTLEYPOISONROSES clones, again in the early 90’s with ALICEPEARLGARDENS, and the proverbial dead horse of nu metal of the KORNDEFBIZKIT and now in 2007 we have the KILLSWITCHLAMBBREEDGATES crop. Although we may be experiencing overkill with breakdowns, and bark/clean vocals, there are a few bands who manage to stand out from their peers and AUGUST BURNS RED.
It’s not necessarily that ABR does anything different to their genre, but there’s a stiff level of conviction that you hear with songs like Back Burner and The Eleventh Hour that separate them from the rehash. Also in their favor is the ability to write memorable guitar passages that are more than 4 notes in Vital Signs and The Balance. While ABR may not become the next big thing, they pack enough power in their punch to sustain the ride of the current trend.

I agree with this review. I have always enjoyed ABR but they tend to be pigeonholed into a single category that doesn’t have very much progression. That is alright though as they somewhat standout from the crowd. I liked this album and agree that it is about a 7/10, I would have maybe given it a 7.5/10 just because they stand out in a already dead crowd.
yes, i find they are very good, but dont differ into many differnt genres, which is okay, but i thought with this Cd they would progress a lot more, which they have, but in one direction, the elevnth hour is an amzing song. id give it 6/10, maybe, 5 probably
I have been unsure about them because of my friends and I being more into the brutal stuff. But if you say they stand out a bit from the new shit comming out maybe ill check’m out.
