The Acacia Strain’s Vincent Bennett was brave enough to tackle the SMN Top 20 whilst on tour with Sounds of the Underground:
1. Be honest…what do you think of SMNnews.com and have you ever been to the site?
Vincent (The Acacia Strain, vocals): To be honest, I have never heard of smnnews.com, but I’ll be sure to check it out ASAP!
2. Who is your least favorite band on the tour and, if we have to ask, who are you most looking forward to seeing every day?
Vincent: That’s kind of an unfair question, I mean I love all the bands on this tour. By saying I like one the least isn’t really very friendly of me. But, if I had to pick one band on this tour that I wouldn’t enjoy listening to, it would probably be heavyheavylowlow. I’m not hating…I just don’t get it. Sorry dudes, I’m sure you won’t take it personally. Most excited to see would probably be Darkest Hour. I love darkest hour.
3. Who are you most likely to get bored of the quickest out of bands on the bill?
Vincent: Chimaira. Once again, no offense, just not that into it.
4. Do you “illegally” download music from any of the other bands on tour/do you even own or have access to a computer?
Vincent: I think the only record I have actually downloaded from the bands on this tour is the new job for a cowboy. They sold 13,000 records first week. They didn’t need my one sale.
5. Have you been able to parlay your slot on this tour into getting any scene chicks yet?
Vincent: I don’t dig random chicks. This one bitch tried showing her boobs for a pair of shorts the other day and she didn’t even watch us play. I told her to fuck off and no shorts.
6. How bad does it suck playing outdoors in 90 degree weather, and do you anticipate changing your underwear at least once on this tour?
Vincent: Playing outside so far rules. There has always been a slight breeze, especially on the day in
7. Has Necro forced you into buying merch yet?
Vincent: No, he hasn’t. He actually offered it to us on the first couple days of tour. I haven’t collected yet though.
8. What’s it like playing an “underground” festival that has all fairly accomplished bands on its billing?
Vincent: Quote Keller from ETID (while trashed): “sounds of the underground? There’s nothing fucking underground about this pussy shit!” But for real, this tour rules. I mean, the word underground can obviously be used loosely, but I think most of the bands on this tour are keeping it real. No fucking around. This is the best tour we have ever done. And its way more underground than some of the OTHER traveling fests this summer.
9. With such short set times and so many other bands playing and ultimately sounding so much alike, how do you make sure your set is memorable?
Vincent: I punch kids in the face.
10. Have you seen Job For A Cowboy requesting people on MySpace while on the tour yet?
Vincent: No, I think they hired a guy who works around the clock to do that. It’s gone beyond anything you and I will ever understand.
11. What’s it like being a part of a tour with a mixture of bands that have numbers and the word ‘Prada’ in their names?
Vincent: One of their guitar players told their tour manager that he was disappointed that I was such a nice guy and it kind of ruined my “mean” image of me. So I have done nothing but ridiculed him the entire tour, often times beating him up horribly. I mean, I don’t want to let him down.
12. Have you ever hit on a chick at a show and it turned out to be a guy?
Vincent: No…um… NO!
13. Why do people like Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, Flyleaf and other female fronted bands? remember: metal is a mans world, women are purely for after the show.
Vincent: if a girl wants to be in a band that’s fine, but she is always just going to be compared to Angela from Arch Enemy, so she better get used to it.
14. Have you ever signed up to a message board (SMN’s perhaps?) and e-fought someone who talked shit about your band?
Vincent: I don’t believe in message boards. If a kid wants to talk shit, he can talk shit right to me. I’m not going to glorify his e-beef with a response.
15. How did you decide who was in your MySpace top 8, and was it a difficult decision to make?
Vincent: I think we have a top like 24 or some shit. I just put in the band members and bands we are friends with, whoever wanted to be actually… wait, I really don’t care.
16. Do you feel shortchanged by being on SOTU instead of Ozzfest?
Vincent: No. Sounds is better.
17. Do you buy into the myth that Nergal from Behemoth is a homosexual?
Vincent: Never heard that myth. Not really a huge Behemoth fan…I like shitty death metal.
18. If you could be in any of the other bands on the tour, which would it be?
Vincent: GWAR, who wouldn’t? I want my own dope ass costume.
19. Are you voting in 2008?
Vincent: I vote every chance I get, so far it hasn’t really made a difference, but whatever.
20. After or while answering the above questions, did your answer to question #1 change at any point in time?
Vincent: I think I might actually go visit the site right now.
