There’s something positive to be said about a band that has persevered lineup changes and the changing of musical times to maintain true to themselves and their style that delivers a solid album in the likes of the Orange County/ Long Beach Area based DROID on their Emotional Syphon Recordings debut. Forget the instant typical comparisons and open your ears to what many in SoCal have known for a while.
Through the years DROID has been the brainchild of Guitarists Jaime and Bruce, yet it’s when they added vocalist James to the mix when the band was given their true definition. James has an unrivaled presence onstage which you can feel on this debut which I feel has been helped by the mixing and mastering by the legendary Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILITY) which allows subtle nuances in the music like the dynamics in Gods Of Anger to breathe properly which allow the vocals to stand on their own. There can be comparisons made to some front runners of the American Metal movement of the moment, but DROID manages to maintain their own identity. There’s no wiggly guitar virtuoso weaving in and out of the songs which most would probably expect at this point in time, but DROID manages to make a solid album without noodling.
All in all, DROID has put out a solid effort that might appeal more to the Ozzfest crowd than Family Values, but that might change since they will be sharing stages with the likes of HELLYEAH, TRIVIUM, and ATREYU. The masses will need to shed the KORN relation and give this an honest listen to appreciate what DROID has to offer.

All Tue Madsen has done is hinder The Haunted. The new album is so terrible. And yeah, this Droid sounds nothing like Korn. Family Values is such a weird concert for this band to be on.
