Listening to an album that receives so much positive feedback can be either a fulfilling experience or a disappointing one. Expecting a lot from Scarve’s Undercurrent was a mistake: it was unsatisfactory and left me hoping for more. The first two times through this CD was painful: it was like cutting five-foot tall grass with an old, rusty manual lawn mower. Each song, like ‘Imperceptible Armageddon’, ‘Assuming Self’, and even the shortest one ‘Senseless’ has a lot going on and stretches out in a dark and angry rage. Only ‘A Few Scraps of Memories’ stuck out on Undercurrent because of the diabollically calm undertones that settle on the track. However, despite its uniqueness, the song quickly melts back into the rest of the CD. Although Scarve has considerable potential, and each member is clearly a talented musician, they undermined the greatness of Undercurrent by seemingly holding back their creativity and making the album sound alll too similar…track after track…
