GWAR, Chimaira – Lead Sounds Of The Underground Tour

Billboard.com reports: The third edition of the Sounds of the Underground tour will feature performances by GWAR, CHIMAIRA, EVERY TIME I DIE, NECRO and JOB FOR A COWBOY, among others.

The 25-city North American trek starts July 6 at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas and wraps Aug. 8 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. Other confirmed acts include DARKEST HOUR, AMON AMARTH, THE ACACIA STRAIN, HEAVY HEAVY LOW LOW, THE NUMBER TWELVE LOOKS LIKE YOU, DEVIL WEARS PRADA and GOATWHORE.

GWAR is scheduled to headline on most nights, and additional as-yet-unannounced guest headliners will join the bill on select dates. THIS IS HELL and 2 CENTS will split the tour in half as opening acts.

“There are a few bands that have been on the tour before and a bunch of newcomers,” The Agency Group’s Tim Borrow tells Billboard.com. And as opposed to other heavy metal summer tour packages, SOTU is “trying to be the niche, off-the-radar, less commercialized type of tour,” he says.

The Live Nation-produced summer jaunt is visiting 2,000-to 5,000-seat venues, including large ballrooms, cut-down arenas, convention centers and outdoor stage setups. Borrow says this year’s SOTU is hitting smaller venues than it has in the past. “The last couple of years we’ve done this big parking lot-esque type of tour,” he explains. “We’re going to try and have a more controlled atmosphere that’s a lot less expensive to produce.”

Ticket presales begin April 25 at a price of under $30, according to Borrow.

Hot Topic is the presenting sponsor of this year’s SOTU. In late June, the retail chain will carry an exclusive CD/DVD compilation of the summer trek.

Last year’s SOTU, which featured AS I LAY DYING, IN FLAMES, TRIVIUM, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GWAR, TERROR, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THE CHARIOT and THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD, grossed $1.8 million from 18 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore.

    FUCK SOTU, FUCK EM!!
3 years this tour has been running and 3 years KC has gotten screwed
damnit, that pisses me off, I would love to see Darkest Hour and Amon Amarth again

  2. Exactly says:

Wow, and I thought the Ozzfest line up was horrible. Aside from Amon Amarth I wipe my ass with this line up.

  3. Lumbergh says:

Amon Amarth, Gwar, Goatwhore = the only bands worth a shit.

  4. hunter_killer says:

GWAR, Chimaira, Amon Amarth, Darkest Hour, and Goatwhore should just tour by themselves.

  5. theWolfisLOOSE says:

What a shit fest. Amon Amarth and Goatwhore should do a tour with some other bands. The rest of the bands hunter_killer mentioned should also do a separate tour.

  6. ADD says:

more like SOunds From The Cheese Under My Balls

  7. Ichiban says:

Gwar, ETID, AA, DH, TIH and Goatwhore would be fun as an off date.

  8. Deadnight Warrior says:

lol always with the complaints.. you fuckers are never satisfied!!

  9. Lumbergh says:

even with gwar headlining this year, this is, overall a very weak line up compared to previous years.

  10. Exactly says:

Of course there are complaints. Why would somone be satisfied with this pile of shit? and this fest isnt even free! Ozzfest is looking just as bad but at least its free, not that that means anything with the line up they have. If someone was handing out free pieces of shit I sure as fuck wouldnt want it even though its free and there is no way in hell I am even going to consider paying for a piece of shit.

Nice to see Amon Amarth on there, the rest is the same old shit and shit that doesnt need to come into my ear drums EVER!

  11. clayton bigsby says:

ha. bitch and moan…bitch and moan. lets hear what bands you want to see on a summer tour.

  12. dalenkwint says:

For the 3rd time… why not NY?

I dont really care for this lineup but it’s always this and Ozzfest that hit north jersey and consider it their NYC stop. For me there is a big difference. I’ll still find my way to Ozzfest though. It’s fucken free….

  13. CannibalCFH says:

Gwar, Chimaria, Amon Amarth, Goatwhore, all great, the rest, not so much

  14. Starkweather says:

    every band on here blows……

  15. RiverDragon says:

so any idea on how long Amon Amarth will play for?

  16. Sans Self says:

Man, you people are just t00 tr00 to enjoy anything that isn’t metal as fuck. Meanwhile this tour will make far more money than prveious years because it’s a more consistent lineup than last year’s (with better overall bands) and there’s more known acts than the first year’s fest. Fuckin’ a. Gwar, Chimaira, ETID, Darkest fucking Hour, Amon Amarth, TN12LLU, and fucking GOATWHORE. ONE LINEUP? Oh hell yes. Palladium, here I come.

PS: If ya’ll haven’t heard or guessed it looks like Shadow’s Fall will be taking part in some dates. Interesting. They’ll be at The Palladium, mark my words.

  17. robw says:

    the palladium wtf?
thats way too small for this tour
ya shadows falls will probably be the guest headliner at there
i hope king diamond and machine head join this tour

  18. screename1414 says:

amon amarth, number 12, darkest hour, gwar, and goatwhore make it worth it.

  19. youguysaremorons says:

Wow. Fucking idiots. I would pay 30 bucks just to see Amon Amarth. Get over yourselves. You get to see Goatwhore and Darkest Hour too. And you can laugh at Necro. What’s the problem here?
