Chris Cornell – Splits Audioslave, Covers Michael Jackson

Billboard.com reports: Chris Cornell has split AUDIOSLAVE, the band he formed with three former members of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, due to unspecified “irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences,” according to a statement, which concludes, “I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors.”

Cornell is quickly moving on to his second solo album, “Carry On,” due May 1 via Suretone/Interscope. The 14-track set was produced by Steve Lillywhite and includes a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” (which Cornell has been known to play live) as well as “You Know My Name,” the theme to the recent James Bond film “Casino Royale.”

The album is Cornell’s first solo affair since 1999’s “Euphoria Morning.” Among the other songs set to appear are the country-leaning “Finally Forever” and the harder-edged “Poison Eye” and “No Such Thing.”

AUDIOSLAVE released three studio albums since coming together in 2001, but the band did not tour behind its most recent set, “Revelations.” Band members never publicly addressed their uncertain future, although privately, sources close to the situation said AUDIOSLAVE had been on ice for some time.

AUDIOSLAVE’s really been more of a collaboration, anyway, and I’m a guy that writes a lot of songs, and I write a lot by myself,” Cornell told Billboard.com last August.

Last month, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk announced they were reuniting with RAGE vocalist Zack de la Rocha for what they are claiming to be a one-off performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in late April in Indio, Calif.

Those members just can’t seem to play with two bands at one time. I guess this clears the for a full-fledged Rage reunion.

Finally. Cornell is too talented to waste time with the RATM leftovers. How about a Soundgarden reunion tour?

Thank God. They blew from the beginning…although Cochise wasn’t too bad. He can’t sing in a live setting worth a shit anymore. I saw their Cuba concert on Fuse, and he sounded absolutely terrible when he tried to hit the higher notes. Hope Rage gets back together for more than just Coachella.

A few years ago, Cornell was asked of the status of Soundgarden, he said that they never broke up, but just taking a break. Yea its been many years (about 9 to 10 yrs since Soundgarden performed) but with Matt Camron playing with Pearl Jam and other members still involved with music projects, within a yr or two it could be possible.

Good. They were just another group where the separate parts are greater than the whole product. Hopefully, RATM gets back together full-time and then Cornell can either continue his solo thing or restart Soundgarden. Either way, anything is better than the continuation of this abomination.

RATM and Soundgarden should tour together. period.

Soundgarden wont reform. Rage will. Sweet.

Well that fucking sucks! I thought their first album was one of the best rock albums I have ever heard. I was disappointed with Out of Exile, but really liked Revelations. So yeah, this sucks! Kinda saw it coming though.
