After what seems to be 8 successive Ozzfest appearances, OTEP returns to the fold with “The_Ascension”, an effort that boasts the usual poetic lyricism and politically driven fanaticism that is sure to excite the most leftist of fans. There is no chatter of pork on this album, but what does pop up as a welcome surprise is a cover of Nirvana’s ‘Breed’. Eloquently moaned out, namesake Otep Shamaya delivers her own interpretation of this 90’s grunge classic. As for the original content on the disc, OTEP have actually provided a very well produced and musically arranged offering! After being the butt of so many jokes for so many years, loyal fans will appreciate the overall strength of the album, and those who are still unsure of what Shamaya and co. can deliver may be tempted to hear the heaviness that results from these particular recording sessions. Out March 20, 2007, whether you are a marching martyr, drinking the milk of regret, or having adrenochrome dreams – have a listen, there may be something in it for you.
