Having never walked in the land of hobbits and trolls, let alone dreamed of even meeting a white wizard, putting a Battlelore CD into your CD player certainly gets you a few steps closer to realizing that potential dream. With such an epic name that isn’t to be confused with the board game, Battlelore’s (!) fantasy driven music is equally as fascinating. In the vein of similar bands a la label mates Leaves’ Eyes, newcomers Angtoria, and of course Nightwish, Battlelore melts the power of female lung with that of the bareback grunt of the male warrior to help guide you through Middle Earth. The sludgy 9 track effort, “Evernight”, is a down tuned, weapon gathering feast that will have the most Hessian looking of metalheads raising their mead cups and lifting their horned finger salutes to the eye of Sauron. Fans of Amon Amarth will tip their horned hat in appreciation as Battlelore continue to carve out a niche for themselves (with their own scepters) in the world of fantasy and myth.

Any band that can be compared to Nightwish and Angtoria is bound to suck balls…

Most people don’t like this band, but they are one of my favorites. Listen to the album “Sword’s Song” and you will understand.
