Sumerian Records in conjunction with Outerloop Management & Millen White Zelano & Branigan (”MWZB“) are pleased to announce Headbang for The Highway. A truly unique multi-city battle of the bands with the winner receiving not only money and nationwide exposure but the opportunity to be the opening act on a nationwide tour with tour support and a live video included.
Ash Avildsen, Sumerian’s President (The Faceless, Too Pure To Die, Stick To Your Guns) and also a booking agent (Napalm Death, Necrophagist, Bury Your Dead, Ignite, Animosity, etc.) came up with the idea after noticing that so few bands really get the opportunity to build a fan base and entice labels because they can’t get good tour opportunities. “Many great bands are out there that may never really play in front of industry insiders or build a large enough buzz to interest labels. Headbang For The Highway will change all that by providing quality bands the opportunity to travel to LA to compete for the chance of a lifetime. I have discovered unsigned bands locally who when I put them on tour, ended up drawing hundreds of kids all over the country without even having a record in stores! This was a big inspiration for Headbang, as I realized: forget about waiting on labels to sign and promote young artists just find a talented, deserving band and allow them the opportunity to do a real tour and watch the magic happen!” I wanted this event to be as great as possible so I enlisted the help of some super partners Outerloop Management & MWZB.
Mike Mowery an Outerloop Management partner (Strapping Young Lad, Darkest Hour, Strike Anywhere, Misery Signals, The Agony Scene, etc.) really liked the fact that the Battle targets a specific musical genre, “I hate when a country picker or a radio rock band is competing against a metal band. The focus of the event is lost and really no one wins because a true comparison is ridiculous. Headbang focuses on metal and I’m excited to be a part of this great event. Throw in a killer live video for the winner by Jerry Clubb of MentalSuplex Productions (As I Lay Dying, Unearth, The Acacia Strain, Suicide Silence) to give kids on the internet a chance to get in to the band before they come to town, and they can very quickly begin building their career. You never know where Outerloop will find its next client and Headbang may well be a great opportunity for that to happen.”
Jeff Cohen, a partner at MWZB (Lamb of God, Unearth, Behemoth, Evergreen Terrace, Sounds of the Underground, Saints & Simmers, etc) couldn’t agree more, “When Ash called me about the Headbang concept I immediately loved it. It’s so much more creative than the typical battle where the winner wins some studio time and some equipment. Don’t get me wrong these are all good but to build a career in this business your need exposure and a professional touring schedule. Headbang provides that opportunity and a lot more. I plan on attending a number of battles and may well find some great bands to work with.”
