Howard Stern – Plays Caninus & Hatebeak Songs, Update On Six Feet Under
The following is a rundown of today’s (Nov. 30th) Howard Stern Show courtesy of a fansite:
Howard started off the show talking about his opening song ”Great American Nightmare” (ROB ZOMBIE) which he didn’t even know the name of. Fred had to remind him. Howard said he’s been playing on the air all week the songs from the band SIX FEET UNDER because they’re kind of taken with the singer’s voice. They apparently sell a lot of records but Robin said she can’t imagine how that’s possible.
Howard played some of their cover of “Purple Haze” from their album Graveyard Classics. He said that someone sent them a letter about a band called CANINUS who use a pit bull as their singer. He had some of their album so he played that and you hear a dog growling to their music. He played a couple of their songs and Robin said that they had to have made that up. Howard said it was legitimate and not a goof though.
Richard came in and said that it’s actually a side project of a metal band and it must be one of the guy’s pets. He said there’s another band that has a parrot as a lead singer. Howard asked about the band where the singer snorted like a pig. Richard said that was a guy snorting, not an actual pig. Howard had one of their songs so he played that as well saying that it’s really fascinating to him. He doesn’t understand it.
Howard asked Richard if it’s the kind of music that parents just don’t understand and freak out over. Richard said it’s a very acquired taste. Howard asked him if he would listen to it in his apartment. Richard said he would probably work out to that kind of music. Howard played short clips of the pig sounding guy singing and the CANINUS band.
Artie said that Richard likes to listen to that stuff while he’s not showering. Richard told Howard to play a clip from the band with a parrot as a lead singer. Howard checked that one out but it sounded kind of like a pig. Richard said the lead singer sings along with the parrot. At one point they let the parrot go on it’s own and it sounds like they’re doing something evil to it according to Robin.
Howard played more of SIX FEET UNDER’s “Purple Haze” and some of the other bands stuff after that. He was getting some laughs out of the CANINUS stuff. Artie said ”You’ve heard of Dido… This is Fido.” Howard said that stuff was pretty funny.
SIX FEET UNDER is willing to do the show but Howard said they’ve been getting a lot of mail from fans telling them not to have them on. They can’t take more than a few seconds of their songs.
