Metallica – Retrospective Video Catalogue Coming Out on DVD in December
Multi-platinum hard rock band and seven-time Grammy-winning artists METALLICA will release The Videos 1989-2004 the first-ever music video retrospective DVD on Warner Bros. Records, December 5th.
The collection which includes all 21 of METALLICA’s videos, plus bonus features spans the years from 1989’s …And Justice For All to 2003’s St. Anger, and features pioneering videos such as the muted color toned, film noir-classic “One,” METALLICA’s ground-breaking first foray in music video.
With the 1991 release of Metallica (The Black Album) came the Wayne Isham-directed clips “Enter Sandman,” which peppered performance clips alongside a nightmarish dreamscape, “Wherever I May Roam,” featuring clips from a 1992 San Diego performance, and “Sad But True.” Metallica went on to sell 14 million copies in the US.
The Videos 1989-2004 also features additional esteemed directors who have contributed to METALLICA’s video legacy such as Anton Corbijn, Jonas Akerlund, Samuel Bayer and The Malloys. Both “Enter Sandman” and “Until It Sleeps” won MTV Video Music Awards for Best Metal Video.
The DVD also includes the 1989 release of the home video 2 of One, (previously only available on VHS), “Mama Said,” which never aired in North America, and several extras such as the 11+ minute “Theatrical Version” of “The Unforgiven” and the film trailer for METALLICA’s critically acclaimed 2004 documentary Some Kind Of Monster. All audio on the DVD has been re-mixed in 5.1 surround sound.
The Videos 1989-2004 showcases what made METALLICA hard rock’s most highly influential and celebrated band. With more than 90 million albums sold worldwide, they are one of the most commercially successful rock bands in history, and are currently ranked 18th on the RIAA’s list of top-selling acts in the U.S.
Summer of 2006 saw METALLICA performing sold-out shows across Europe, and making their first-ever appearance in South Africa. The band is currently at their Northern California home-base writing material for their upcoming Warner Bros. release due in 2007.
