Unearth – III: In the Eyes of Fire
Author: Aidan Gray
Following their breakthrough release “The Oncoming Storm”, Boston’s Unearth are back – louder, heavier, and ultimately faster. Feeding off a more raw element that has come from deep within, the Trevor Phipps led quintet continues to stamp their mark of authority on the world of heavy music. With wonderers wondering, “III: In the Eyes of Fire” [refreshingly] isn’t a direct continuation from where “The Oncoming Storm” left off. Rather this thrashier effort sees the east coasters up the ante of their musicianship and perfect their raucous style of playing. From guitar gems like ‘Sancitity of Brothers’ to the defiant ‘March of the Mutes’, Unearth have proved once again why they are no less than the likes of top selling counterparts Lamb of God and Shadows Fall. While some may complain that the grooves aren’t there, it’s too bland, or it’s too boring – they unfortunately just aren’t listening hard enough, and are writing a rather worthwhile album off.
