Gorgoroth – Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam

Author: Kristofer Upjohn

OK, I may not be technically correct in the following description and I may piss purists off. Or, I may not. Who knows? At any rate, I think when you listen to Gorgoroth you’re hearing, truly, a fusion of death metal, grind and black metal, welded together into a sound that is brutal, terrifying and sharply executed. This is the kind of band that can satisfy both those who want blistering destruction and those who want technicality. Gorgoroth grinds away with the best of them, charging with percussive furiosity and guitar rage and, naturally, grinding vocals (with some admirable dynamics and solid quality). But there’s also at work here master musicians who know how to play their instruments fast, but also well. In addition, there’s a profoundly black metal element here, a deep satanic glee and rage informing the proceedings. This is extreme metal.
