The Quill – In Triumph

The Quill is a blend of clean and fuzzy, melodic and aggressive, modern and retro. Crisp, powerish vocals soar over music that fuses some psychey-stoned stuff with a healthy modern rock/nu metal sensibility. The music chugs with a solid groove and has appeal for both rock and metal fans, not to mention the blues factor (which should appeal to both since blues are an integral part of both rock and metal beginnings). There’s enough stoner fuzz here to appeal to the doomsters but it doesn’t overwhelm to the point of inaccessibility for non-stoner fans. There’s groovy-tasty metal solos plugged into the tunage. The Quill produces a slick, sweet, stoned-out batch of hard rock tunes. “In Triumph” is certainly a triumph.
