Dope – Reach Agreement With V2 Records – Members Join Sideprojects

Chicago based DOPE have reached an agreement with V2 Records for the bands future work. V2 is also home to such artists as THE WHITE STRIPES, MOBY and SUGAR CULT, as well as a slew of Artemis Records bands following a merger between the two labels. This next effort will be DOPE’s 5th record since their Epic Records debut “Felons and Revolutionaries” in 1999. DOPE will begin work on the yet untitled album follow-up to “American Apathy” later this year and it is expected to be released in early 2007.

In the meantime, mainman Edsel Dope has been developing, producing, and performing with several bands including the Florida based MAKESHIFT ROMEO for which a video for the song ‘The Way I Was’ was posted online at their MySpace.

In other DOPE news guitarist Virus recently joined MAKESHIFT ROMEO with Brix Milner and Racci Shay starting an unnamed side project featuring Shay on drums and Milner on guitar – the two will also be providing musical backing for WEDNESDAY 13 for some upcoming shows this spring.

Edsel Dope had the following to say about all thats going on in the world of DOPE:

“Right now, we are all enjoying a much needed break from the constant touring and craziness of Dope. Its been a refreshing feeling for us individually and collectively to explore other musical outlets while knowing that the roar of another Dope record is right around the corner. In addition, I am very excited about our new record deal with V-2 Records.”

“They have done a tremendous job with their other acts and I welcome their fresh energy. After taking some time to focus on other production and recording projects, I am very much looking forward to beginning work on what will be the 5th Dope record. Right now, the plan is to continue pushing Dopes sound in a more extreme direction.”

“Picking up where our last record American Apathy left off, you can expect more double bass, more middle fingers and more guitar solos from Dope in the future.”

DOPE is in the process of putting together an early summer headlining tour.
