Tub Ring – Release Statement About Incident Between Them and Black My Heart

TUB RING have released the following explanation about the confrontation that took place between them and BLACK MY HEART at a recent show:

Carmel, IN 3-11-2006

- Tub Ring plays last out of 6 bands. All are hardcore / straight edge.
- Tub Ring sets last 35 minutes, no banter between songs, TR plays song to song to song, non-stop. NOTHING was said to the audience through the PA except right before TR starts playing… when jokingly TR remarks “you are going to need to listen to Elton John for a week to get all that hardcore out of your systems”
- Tub Ring plays for about 20 minutes, as TR plays, members of all the opening hardcore bands gathering on both sides of the stage watching TR play. FULL bottles of water begin to be thrown @ TR by these band members, then… a metal lock box, then out of nowhere a HUGE barstool is hurled, which hits TR’s guitarist JEFF, breaking the headstock off of his guitar. Another chair hits Rob in the head, and then smashes his keyboard up.
- Tub Ring stops playing, and bassist Trevor follows fleeing hardcore band
assailants out into the hall behind the stage. Trevor confronts a dozen or so band members – not knowing who had thrown the barstool… and asks “what was that all about, and who’s paying for that guitar?” – he is met by numerous responses including “you talk SH*T about hardcore, that’s what you get”. Trevor is then HEADBUTTED by Wheeler (singer of “Black My Heart”) leaving both of them with bleeding cuts. Trevor now needs stitches on his face.
- All 5 hardcore bands begin to flee the scene, but thanks to a couple of quick thinking TR fans, their vans get boxed in the parking lot. Cops arrive & take pictures of the damage to Tub Ring’s equipment and of Trevor’s injuries, and Wheeler singer of “Black My Heart” is arrested and taken to jail. Nobody could confirm who actually had thrown the barstool which broke Tub Ring’s equipment, but when asked all members of all 5 bands were heard to respond with comments such as “that’s what you get for talking SH*T about hardcore” or “you’re lucky the cops are here now or else we’d finish you off”.

if anyone wants to dispute this story, or wants to claim TR said ANYTHING @
all derogatory about any of the HC bands or the SE way of life from stage that night… we have video of the whole show available shot by a fan.
Unfortunately the video did not have an angle which can identify the person
who threw the barstool.

Just a side note – when TR members asked the H/C band memebers “what did we say about H/C music that offended you?” – none of them even knew. None of them even brought up the Elton John statement, they all just said “we heard you were talking shit about H/C + S/E”

Yeah I was actually at this show and was extremely sick and wasn't even going to go to the show once I noticed that the bill had become oversaturated with the same sounding "core" bands. I just knew that was going to be trouble. I am a fan of Tub Ring though and realized that it may be months/years before they come back to my area, so I decided to be a trooper and go to the show with a cold to see Tub Ring.

For the most part everyone who showed up for Tub Ring, chilled over by Tub Ring's merch area talking to the guys in Tub Ring for the duration of all the opening bands. If anything was said to Black My Heart or any of the bands who opened that night…it was not by any of the guys in Tub Ring, and I did not see them. Rob and Kevin who are both in a side project called Super 8 Bit Brothers together, onstage usually make a mockery out of hardcore dancing to get the audience laughing; but I can tell you right now they held back from that. When it was Tub Ring's time to get onto the stage during their setup/soundcheck Rob did say his comment about "you are going to need to listen to Elton John for a week to get all of that hardcore out of your systems." Which wasn't even bashing hardcore it was more of just making all of us fans who had toughed it out through 6 shitty bands know that it was time to see what we payed to see.

Then Tub Ring who brought in more than half the crowd that night must have pissed off all the previous bands by headlining the show and doing a better job so a few guys had to be "hardcore" and throw things. If you're a Tub Ring fan as long as I have been…you've probably seen them get shit thrown at them so it was nothing new to me. Indiana has a lame concert curfew (all shows must end by 11pm) and since their were 6 bands who already played Tub Ring were just playing into the next song to try to squeeze as many songs as possible into their set to give us fans more of what we wanted. By about the 4th song full bottles of water were being thrown, and they weren't pussy throws either. Tub Ring again kept their cool until about 6 minutes later a metal lock box was thrown. Then a damn bar stool that broke Tub Ring's new guitarist Jeff's guitar.

So instead of seeing a full set we got to see Tub Ring play I think it was 6-7 songs. It was utter bullshit and to make matters worse the "hardcore" assholes that were so "hardcore" to do all that shit…ran like a bunch of little bitches. Luckily some people that were as pissed off as I was blocked their vans and trailers in while Tub Ring did the professional adult-like thing to call the cops. While the cops were there they wouldn't let anyone leave so pretty much everyone was stuck over in a building after paying for all that bullshit even longer than we wanted. It wasn't Tub Ring's fault and I think just about every person that night understood and heard an apology from some member of Tub Ring.

I am still a little bitter I payed 10 dollars and had to go through a night's worth of bullshit to see a band I like not even play their full set because of this "unity and brotherhood of hardcore." I can tell you right now if any real hardcore bands heard of what happened they wouldn't want Black My Heart to participate in their scene, that's for damn sure.

With all this talk about some idiot whose name I forgot because he is too much of a retard for me to want to remember his name but yea. You bash the fact that there are sub-genres of Core but there are a million sub-genres for Metal too idiot.

Some people who reply to these topics need to die in a fire or roll with Magic Johnson in some barbed wire already.

this fighting between hardcore and metal will never end. fuck, i listen to both, more hardcore than metal now. i love how people are bashin these "xxx tough guys" but then proceed to challenge their band to a fight with a hardcore band. stfu.

the dancing you see at metal shows are metal heads tryin to dance, ive seen it and it looks pathetic. who dances at metal shows anyway? i go to a metal show i watch, no need to get sweaty and pushed around. hardcore ill dance. if the show is mixed, so will the pits so deal with it for whatever type of band is playing.

i hate how people go to a hardcore show and expect there to be no dancing. i go to see metal i know there will be a push pit. i dont cry about it. actually i do, once i put in my screamo death threat cd
