Throttlerod – Nail
Author: Kristofer Upjohn
Throttlerod isn’t the doomiest – or even the stoneriest – of stoner metal bands, but I dare you to deny their hook. The band’s sound is thick but also lean and muscular and obliquely possessive of a sort of minimalism. There’s also plenty in the way of dynamics as the styles shift. From raw, bass-pushing, hammering, gritty rock to melodic and layered rock tunage to metallic rage, Throttlerod may not be your most stonerific stoner stoned band but they’re one of the more distinctive artists you might come across. Depth of songwriting and angry and emotional pull and a bit of modern day Spock’s Beard via a heavy-up filter make this a release worth noting.
