Mord – Christendom Perished
Author: Kristofer Upjohn
Metal for only the blackest of enthusiasts. If your idea of black metal is the (relatively) accessible stylings of Cradle of Filth, then this isn’t for you. If, on the other hand, you believe black metal should be sick, raw, harsh and anything but gentle and melodic, then here you go. Of course, Mord’s sound isn’t without melody of a sort; but it’s that sick, gut-twist “melody” churned out by demonically inspired guitars that move fast enough to give your eardrums blisters. The percussion is, of course, sick and unrelenting, moving like a train out of control as it hammers ahead at ungodly speeds, providing a rhythm for the ungodly lyrics. The vox, of course, are as raspy and nasty as you could possibly hope for. What’s nice about Mord is the production. Sure, it’s dense and unforgiving, but the textures are there and available for the discerning ear. Mord doesn’t tread any undiscovered territory but it sure knows how to do a classic thing properly.
