Sworn Enemy - Lorenzo Antonucci, Guitars

March 1st, 2006, 12:00 pm

Ed. Note: This extremely informative and well answered interview by Mr. Antonucci was conducted via email. Please try to ignore any glaring spelling errors and grammatical faux pas, as we want to keep the honesty, integrity, and apparent flavor to his answers as fresh as possible considering the time and effort put into doing such an interview was obviously excessive.

1. Would you agree your new sound is definitely a step in a different
- or modified - direction for the band?

Yes.. I think we have steped it up musicly. We wanted to be better
at playing our style of music. We wanted to branch out to a diffrent
audience. We just got better..

2. I’m inclined to say you’ve moved more toward metal and rather
away from hardcore. Agree or disagree, why or why not?

I agree that we sound a little more metal We never wanted to be
labeled anything.. We just play music.

3. Explain what the album’s title means to you.

It’s the begining of the new sound for sworn enemy.. The end of the
older basic stuff we did over the years. That’s what I think.. “The
beging of the end” means..

4. I reviewed your last album (for a different media outlet) and
found it to be very much rooted in the hardcore tradition. The new
album is very much rooted in the thrash tradition. These two genres
have some kindred history. By moving more into the thrash realm do you
believe you are touching on old school, fast-paced hardcore punk that
was very much thrashish or were you deliberately channeling metal?

We just play what we like.. We always had a mix of all kinds of
thrash, metal, hardcore.. we love all this kind of music.. I guess we
mesh it well.

5. Do you think the change in sound will affect your listenership?
How so?

We might lose some hardcore kids.. The reason they liked us was
because we hade fast parts and break downs.. I think we still have the
same thing going on.. Just better

6. Who are your influences?

Metallica, slayer, cromags, biohazard, pantera, madball, johny cash, seplutura, life of agony, megadeath, obituary, V.O.D, neglect, faith no more, alice in chains, leeway, bad brains,

7. Lyrically, is there a particular theme running through your
music?

Everyday living.

8. What pisses you off? What would you do about it if you could?

When promoters won’t give us our “BEER” I just want to choke them.

9. Are metal and punk automatically at odds with each other, as some
feel?

Metal and punk are 2 diffrent kinds of music..You always see punck rock kids at metal shows and vice versa.

10. Favorite punk/hardcore band?

Street dogs, mad ball.

11. Favorite metal band?

Metallica.

12. What does the new album artistically say about Sworn Enemy?

We just matured and got better.

13. In the current world, who is your sworn enemy, and who are your
allies?

Our sworn enemy’s are people who don’t buy our record.. Our allies
are friends and fans who we made over the years

14. What’s next for SE?

To tour our asses off.. Right a new record.. And try to go on tour
with metallica.
