Ozzfest – Rumor Mill Updated For The Side Stage
According to one SMNnews.com viewer, the vocalist from DEAD TO FALL told him last night at DARKEST HOUR’s show in Wilmington, NC at the Soapbox Laundro-Lounge with A LIFE ONCE LOST, HIMSA and DEAD TO FALL in tow that BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, THE RED CHORD and A LIFE ONCE LOST have secured rotating spots on the second stage. He also said that ATREYU, UNEARTH and BLEEDING THROUGH have claimed non-rotating spots on the second stage.
To date, only UNEARTH from that list have confirmed to the media that they will be on Ozzfest and they will be non-rotating. BLACK LABEL SOCIETY has also confirmed to the media that they will be on the main stage. Though not confirmed, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, BODY COUNT and DISTURBED have been strongly rumored to be on the main stage. As the status of these bands becomes more clear, we will keep you posted.
35 dollars isn't an insane price for roughly 13 hours of music. as a matter of fact, if you put all your cheap smaller shows together to total 13 hours, it'd be MUCH more than 35. and for those of you thinking prices will raise, people said the same thing last year, and they ended up lowering 5-10 bucks a ticket.
sect – Dead wrong. 2004 and 2005 rank as my top two Ozzfest bills in the seven years I've been going to this damn thing. If you were there, and had been to Ozzfests over the last 10 years, there would be no way you could justify that.
Led – Giving  to Anus? GROSS!!!
yo shut da fuck up dan you stupid asshole iz all about body count cuh!
Ive been to every Ozzfest except for 1997….the fact of the matter is that all Ozzfest is anymore is crappy emocore of swedish influenced stuff which is the most repetitive, redundant form of metal there is….they all sound the same……ok Dan, what was so great about '04 '05 may I ask?
Ok I see your list from last year, I'll dissect it the best I can:
Ozzfest was a rediculous amount of fun last year. Arch Enemy (Was about 10,000 times better with their other singer), The Haunted (Typical Boring ass Euro Metal), In Flames (Are a mere shell of their former selves), Shadows Fall (Seriously, whoever likes them should be shot), Trivium (Maybe the most overhyped and piss poor excuse for a metal band thats come out in 10 years)…..they're an emo band with heavy guitars
There's about 2-4 bands worth seeing every year and that's it. I'm sure it will be the same way this year.
As always, If the headliner(s) are good, I'll go. The 2nd stage is basiacally worthless (except for the ocasional headliner).
Sect:
I strongly have to disagree with your comments about Trivium…The only reason they are overhyped now is because of their age..If they were any older, they would be a typical up and comming metal band..Nothing more…All the hype is because of their age…However, I believe that they have proven themselves to be worthy of their success..The hype is somewhat right though because it isn't often that a band as young as the members of Trivium can even get signed let alone make the 2nd stage of Ozzfest and open for Iron Maiden…I've been a fan of Trivium since earlier 04 and congradulate them on all of their success…Also please remember that just because a band sings an occassional chorus or breakdown in a song doesn't necessarily make them emo…Most of the 80s metal bands did the same thing and yet they are not labelled emo..Why should it be any different for these guys??
Bottom line on Trivium – They can perform pretty fuckin' well and have gotten better as they've gone along.
Sect – You can argue singers w/ Arch Enemy all you want, but Angela was hired because Johan sucked ass live whereas she's a ball of energy. Soilwork's set was great, nothing from F#5. In Flames admittedly put on a weak set but Pinball Map is better than just about any other song you'd see in a day. The Haunted is FUN. That's it. Without sounding like them, they're like a talented Hatebreed. You show up and you know you're going to have a good time. Shadows Fall is a musican's band. They're incredibly skilled and talented, and they know how to structure a song better than most in the business. Shadows Fall has the right attitude mixed with a great work ethic and a sound that hasn't been around since the glory days of Testament. It's a shame that you just lump them into such a pathetic crowd. They deserve all the success they've gotten.
well since im 35 now and have been to 250+ concerts, many of them festivals, i will say this: festivals are not just aobut music, its about getting bands together and hoping that 2-3 are some u really want to see, and more than likely, you will get turned on to 2-3 more and makes it worth while. last year for me trivium and mastodon i really didnt listen to but now dig the shit out of their records!
now for the rumours this is what i have heard since the ozzfest board is deleting everything that is a rumor:
remember this is 4th or 5th generation heresay but its from my buddies in the concert industry and 90 percent of the time they are right or close so here is what i have heard:
the main stage is like this so far
Metallica ( just confirming the little details and making sure the $ work out for everyone. right after the summer they go right back to the recording studio).
system of a down( they're in. just details now)
Disturbed ( in)
Alice in chains ( only question is will they get a spot for the whole tour or just certain places.)
Hatebreed
Avenged Sevenfold
Lacuna Coil
second stage: ( the wild card is Korn. the band has a new deal that gives up part of their touring $$ to the company so sources tell me their mgmt is debating what will work for them. touring to sell records or touring to make $$. its the same concept as sustem of a down has and they finished their own tour so now they want to finish up the album sales strong with ozzfest. korn may do the same to try and push it to platinum ( at around 700,000 now)
Korn
Sepultura/Soulfly reunion ( this one is big rumour and they want it to happen badly! this might pull Korn in.)Davis of Korn is huge supporter of Sepultura!
Black Label Society
Lamb of God
Body Count
Atreyu
unearth
bleeding through
a life once lost
the red chord
between the buried and me
the rest of the bands fill in where u want. remember these are just rumours from good friends who get little peeps talking form time to time. so it could be all bullshit but i will say this, they always come through so we'll see in a few weeks!
PS. if Metallica decide to bow out at the last monute, they will go with what they have and make stronger offers to others. so right now its ozzfest inc making a decent offer to metallica if not, they will load it up with others. it will be fun!
System of a Down would be crazy to do Ozzfest, considering they can sell out areas or amphitheatres by themselves. Who cares if Ozzfest would help sell an extra 2 million records (which it wouldn't) if they are grossing $600,000 a night on a headline tour. The difference would be in the millions.
You got me Dan!
