Sex Pistols – Not Attending Hall of Fame Induction

The SEX PISTOLS have announced that they will not be attending their induction ceremony into the completely meaningless Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the following letter:
“Next to the SEX PISTOLS, rock and roll and that Hall of Fame is a piss stain. Your museum, urine in wine. We’re not coming. Fame at $25,000 if we paid for a table, or $15,000 to squeak up in the gallery, goes to a nonprofit organization selling us a load of old famous. Congradulations. If you voted for us, hope you noted your reasons. Your anonymous as judges, but your still music industry people. We’re not coming. Your not paying attention.”

It was ok for the first half of the movie, then it was meh…this is getting kinda boring.
I like when that kid had acid in his pocket and ran through sprinklers…that was about the most amusing part of the entire flick :laughing:
i don't think they run everything by a publicist. glad they're not going, definetely not their style. and if you think punk sucks, don't listen to it. punk has influenced tons of metal though, you have to be ignorant to write it off as a genre. especially if you like thrash.
Punk has influenced hardcore. And you know that we got an awesome deal out of that.

i was going to say that punk had influenced a lot more than hardcore, specifically slayer and metallica, the two most influential american metal bands of all time. and then i said it.
Punk also had a major influence on some of the early black metal bands. Bathory's early albums come to mind as good examples. The Sex Pistols were never great, then again, they never wanted to be. They just wanted to get wasted and fuck groupies. They never wanted to be regarded as a serious band.
The Sex Pistols really are a generic, mainstream example of punk, but they were one of the first so I guess it's okay.

It is tru they were created initially, but Mc LAren lost control of them REALLY quickly. And I would have to say that John Jydon has had some musical staying power (Public Image Limited). Thats like saying that all of the artists that had records played in the "Payola" scandal in the 50's were talentless.
That whole statement that the band gave made absolutely no sense.

it's been said already on here. but to summarize the main point:
punk is very important genre especially for thrash fans and influenced many bands including the godfathers of american metal (slayer and metallica). they are also one of the top 2 or 3 most important punk bands of all time.
that being sad, hating the mainstream music industry so much as to not attend your own HOF induction ceremony is the punk way to do things. that's always been the punk attitude. whether they're horrible at spelling doesn't change their attitude, though they look a little stupider saying it.
i dig the pistols and i dont' care that they released that statement. that's just who they are and that's why punk is what it is and that's why bands like slayer and metallica took so much from them. badass motherfuckers who didn't give a fuck and just rocked the fuck out. wam bam thank ya ma'am.
This is my opinion on the matter..
I am not a huge fan of the sex pistols music but i acknowledge and totally respect for what they have done for punk rock and the idea of rebellion they began..While I don't believe the sex pistols were the most talented, they helped to create the anti-mainstream movement in music and really can be credited for bringing the idea of anti-culture in music..Their attitudes really helped develop not only a lot of punk rock bands but a lot of other rebellious bands that came with the 80s..
As far as where I stand on their turning down the induction ceremony, I believe that it is their choice and as inductees they have a right to stand by what they continue to believe in. Obviously they still carry their anti-mainstream attitude. However, I still believe that it was very appropriate that they were inducted as well as the other inductees for this years Rock n Roll Hall of Fame (I think that this has gotta be the best inductee list ever)…Congradulati
