Metallica – Rick Rubin To Produce Next Album
METALLICA announced today that Rick Rubin, who produced SLAYER’s 1986 thrash-classic ‘Reign In Blood’ as well as albums by SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLIPKNOT and NEIL DIAMOND, will produce the band’s upcoming album. Here’s what the band had to say:
“We just wanted to let our friends know that we have been jamming, writing, just plain messing around and having fun in the studio for the last few weeks.
Oh, and by the way, this up and coming producer guy named Rick something-or other, has been coming by the studio every now and again to listen to some of our new stuff and throw his two/three cents in.
Since this Rick dude is new to all of this, we thought it would be a nice gesture to help break him into the music business by asking him to produce our next record. We’re very happy he said yes! In other words, we are psyched to share with you that Rick Rubin is producing the next Metallica album! FUCK YEAH!”

just reading "as well as soad, Slipknot and NEIL DIAMOND was funny as hell to me, kind of lumping those 3 together.
As long as Daron Malakin somehow doesn't find a way to sing on this album, it gets my thumbs up.
Rick, as producer, it's your job to tell the guitarist to let the singer sing, and that he sucks.

Well, seeing as how Rick Rubin produced a couple albums from Slayer, maybe this one will be better than St.Anger. But until I actually hear it, I"m not getting my hopes up like last time.

Excellent news, I was hoping they'd move away from using Bob Rock. Nothing against him, but after so many albums with him producing, I think it's good for them to work with someone different. Looking forward to their new album.

I can already tell you what this album will be like…lars drums will sound like damn pancakes…kirks solo's will all be poorly overdone wah effects.. james lyric's will be pathetic and stupid and the rent a bassist will blow as usual…this is pretty much the metallica trend..and until metallica goes back to being what it used to be they will be THE scapegoat for metal music
Fuck going back to what you "used" to be. That's just a cop-out. Their going to keep moving forward, as artists usually do (yes, even in Metal, I know it's hard to swallow). Their newer ideas and direction may not be what you are looking for, but that makes no fucking difference. Because 1. They can't read your mind, and 2. Even if they could, they wouldn't give a fuck anyway, and nor should they.
