To start off, you left Himsa last summer because of disagreements in the band. Is there anything you want to clear up about your leaving?
I left HIMSA simply because I realized that I was in the wrong place.
I wasn’t happy being in that band anymore because I had a lot of differences with them professionally and creatively. You can kinda see what I mean if you listen closely to the record. For example, songs that I wrote the music for like “Pestilence” and “Send Down Your Reign” have a more melodic and technical feel than the stuff the other guys were doing. The main things that I need to clear up are: 1.) I quit the band over professional and creative differences 2.)My wife never made me quit nor had anything to do with me quitting HIMSA. 3.) I NEVER sued HIMSA. 4.)I did co-write and record on the new HIMSA album, Hail Horror. HIMSA did not give me credit for my writing or recording anywhere on the record.
Did you do anything to contribute to song writing, recording, or anything in the recently-released Himsa album “Hail Horror”?
Yes I did! Like I said before, I co-wrote and recorded that record.
I wrote the music for “Pestilence” and “Send Down Your Reign” and co-wrote “The Destroyer” and “Seminal”… Also, I wrote all the music for “I, Possession” and “Waylay the End” which I have been told are going to appear as bonus tracks on foreign releases. They took those two off of the American list of songs for the record after I quit.
I’m not sure what HIMSA has against giving me credit for my work. I think its absurd.
Are you still in contact at all with any of the other members of the band?
After all of the things they have done to me and the things they’ve said about me in the media, I can’t speak to them.
Well you’re working on a new band called Angels to Ashes, tell me a little about the new band. Who are the other members? What is it about? What kind of music is the band creating?
After leaving HIMSA, I started a band called Angels to Ashes with former Cradle of Filth keyboardist Martin Powell. We have been hard at work now for several months and are ready to present our material to the labels within the next few weeks. All of the other members are being finalized and boy do we have an awesome group of musicians here!
I feel honored to be playing with all of them. I will make a proper press release in the near future with all members listed. For now, I can just say that these are all names you metalheads have heard before! The mixture is super eclectic and the music will reflect this dynamic. We’ve tried to take all of the awesome parts of all of our distinct pasts and influences and meld them together into a super metal machine! There is tons of melody, hooks, tonal and melodic singing and powerful, thrashy, devistating guitars. Oh yeah, lots of tasty solos in there too!
How did the band come together and when did all of you start playing together?
The band was formed by Martin and myself immediately after I quit HIMSA. We wrote a bunch of music and found all of the right people who shared our vision to join the ranks. A lot of the writing is done with computers and swapping files back and forth since all of the members are scattered between the USA and England! My wife and I went over to the U.K. in September to visit Martin and we did some jamming and writing out there as well. Besides that, we are all hard at work on this stuff day and night to make it happen. The results thus far have exceeded all expectations!!!
Do you feel a lot of the experience you had with Himsa shows through with the music from Angels to Ashes?
My time spent with HIMSA has made me a much better and more confident guitarist and songwriter simply because I got to live and breathe the guitar every waking moment for so long working with that band. Musically, the energy that people are used to with HIMSA will still be there but with a much more melodic and technical kind of a twist.
Is Angels to Ashes signed to a label at this point?
No, we are not signed yet. That is the next step in the process and we are preparing our demo to shop as we speak.
Are there any plans for a release from Angels to Ashes in the near future?
As soon as we ink the deal, we are planning to get things moving as soon as possible! We have tons of material written and I am anxious to make more! I can’t wait for people to hear it.
Have you guys been able to play any live shows or have any plans for performing?
No live shows have been played yet. I would like to have that start happening as soon as possible. As soon as the record is done you will see us out there banging our heads!
Is there anything else you want to tell metal fans to expect from you and Angels to Ashes in the next year?
First, stay tuned to your favorite metal news station for updates. We are looking to be rockin in full force very soon. I am building Angelstoashes.net and that will be the home for all of the news and updates. Just keep your ears and eyes peeled! This next year will be fun for us because this is when it all comes together. We hope to see you all soon and I hope you like the music. All the METAL!!!
