Nachtmystium wickedly presents crushing, vicious melodies of strictly the most evil intent, fused with spacious production and from-the-depths rasping sure to keep cough drop companies in business for an eternity … in hell. Skin-lashing with the kind of old schoolness that church burners should embrace with all the strength in their black talons, Machtmystium proves to be a band that knows how to put the blackest of black into metal. Unbearably evil and nasty. Yay! (OK, I know you shouldn’t say things like “Yay!” in a black metal interview, but just chalk it up to enthusiasm for black metal that revels in its roots. This is truly the kind of stuff that has melody, but it is of the variety that celebrates the sickness afoot. The music seems to occupy a great, black spaciousness, some infinite pocket of darkness in the bowels of Inferno from whence the demons fly. Hell, the vocalist himself sounds like he could be one of them. Truly BLACK metal. Amen. (In a Satanic way of course.)
