Why the fuck is a core band on this? It's supposed to be a death metal show…and Burnt By the Sun is hardly death metal.
Beneath The Massacre is also this bullshit "deathcore" crap that's going around. Worthwhile death metal riffs ruined by hardcore breakdowns and occasional hardcore vocals. It's almost a tragedy to listen to. To simplify it. It's a bunch of metalcore kids who like death metal, play it but want to show their love for hardcore/metalcore as well. Don't believe me? Go look at the band photo for Beneath the Massacre and Despised Icon. Total fags.

Dismember (!!), Demilich, Anata, Gorgasm, Cliteater, Vital Remains, Severe Torture, Cenotaph, Skinless, Necrophagist and Pungent Stench? I'm all over this shit. I'd also like to go to the Heathen Crusade Metalfest but I have no one to go with.

Yeah, I like both of those bands but those are the first ones that come to mind. Don't forget that I'm an "elitist" who doesn't like anything that sells. ::Shakes head:: But yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Pungent Stench at MDF and I'd love to see Belphegor live. Goatreich-Fleshcult kicked ass.

By the way, I see absolutely nothing hardcore in Beneath The Massacre's material.
Go back and listen again. They have those hardcore breakdowns in their music. Not to mention their band photos is more than proof that they're sure as fuck not a death metal band. Emo haircuts and tight shirts are not metal and probably never will be. Either way, this fest will kill. Vital Remains are good but the highlight of this show is Dismember.

I agree. Judging a band's style of music by their pictures and haircuts is fucking ridiculous and stupid. Beneath The Massacre too much musical skill and technicality to be considered anything -core. Either way, let's just say I wanted to be stupid and judge them by their image. I just looked at their band photo on their site…exactly which one has the emo haircut?

I like how both of you focused on my second half of the statement. I don't give a fuck how technical their death metal riffs are, they ruin it with the hardcore elements. Maybe perhaps NONE of them have emo haircuts but I sure as fuck know they look like fags. I can't remember every band's photo member for member so I make a generalization.

I don't know either but just seeing the emo look disgusts me. If they claimed to be gay, I'd have no problem with it but making an attempt to be hetero but still look like that…no, just no. I'm giving Between the Buried and Me another chance right now, probably one of the better bands labeled as metalcore.
The above statement was towards Beneath the Massacre, just emo people in general BUT..I will admit that I was wrong. I just looked at Beneath the Massacre's band photo and they don't look emo. That still doesn't exempt them from playing ultra technical shit and throwing in these lame ass breakdowns. I mean, why go through all the trouble of writing such amazing riffs and drums only to go back to 3rd grade guitar playing with some bullshit hardcore breakdown? This review said it best:
OK, I think Certain_Death summed this album up pretty good… Guitars 2x as technical as Necrophagist, blast beats that Origin wished they had & all that… yet he failed to bring to your attention the super gay hardcore breakdowns similar to All That Remains with super heavy distortion. Don't get me wrong, I think this album rips ass & destroys alot of stuff in the brutality department that's out there right now, but for musicians of this caliber to arrange elementary breaks in this slab of crotch stomping brutality is just wrong to me. It's stupid to say that a song is ruined because they added a simple riff. Songs that are filled with nothing but technical riffs get very boring. Where as a breakdown, when used correctly and not over-used, can add a new, heavy dimension. Riffs are supposed to sound good, whether they are technical or not, that should take a back seat to what sounds good, and not all technical riffs sound. Plenty of technical bands throw in simple riffs here and there, take dream theater for for example. A lot of people view them to be extremely technical, yet they throw in simplistic riffs all the time, simply because they sound good.

Simple riffs are a lot different than a bullshit open string breakdown. If Dream Theater put a hardcore breakdown in the middle of one of their songs, I'd denounce them from there on.
They have gotten pretty damn close a few times. They've have even used a lot of nu-metal sounding groove riffs. And if there is one thing that will make elitists denounce you it's that. Not that Dream theater really gives a flying fuck if you denounce them though.
