Darkthrone – Pay Tribute To Fallen Voivod Guitarist
Norway’s DARKTHRONE have dedicated a new song on their upcoming album “The Cult Is Alive” (out Feb. 27th, 2006 on Peaceville) to fallen guitar hero Denis D’Amour (aka ‘Piggy’ ) and his pioneering metal band VOIVOD.
In new promotional photos of the band on their official website, DARKTHRONE’s Nocturno Culto is seen sporting a classic VOIVOD t-shirt. About the tribute to ‘Piggy’ he says, “Hell fuckin’ yeah, VOIVOD totally rules! I place VOIVOD among my other faves from the 80’s. We have dedicated one of our songs on the new album to Piggy and , it’s called “Atomic Coming.”
D’Amour died Aug. 26th, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer.
Adds Nocturno Culto, “DARKTHRONE sends their best regards to the old gods and can’t wait to hear the new album when it comes out.”
VOIVOD are currently working with producer Glen Robinson on their forthcoming and still untitled album. The band are utilizing all of the guitar parts that ‘Piggy’ had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.
VOIVOD’s much-anticipated album should surface in late spring on The End Records in North America.

Darkthrone is fukken amazing. I love this band and even if you dont like them you shoud respect what they do , but i guess everyone has their opinions. Im glad their fukking site is finally back up again, its been awhile now.
Wow, I can't believe I'm not the only one in the world that hates Darkthrone! Every time I tell someone I can't stand these guys, they start ranting about how "hating Darkthrone is hating black metal".
It's cool they're paying tribute to Piggy though.
