Soilwork – Stabbing the Drama

Author: Aidan Gray

Soilwork make a triumphant mark on 2005 with this chilling Nuclear Blast release “Stabbing the Drama”. A delightful cross between “A Predators Portrait”, and “Figure Number Five”, although nowhere nearly as vocally crushing as “Steelbath Suicide”, Soilwork do themselves some justice with this solid 11 song treat. Pushing the always delectable Gothenburg ‘Melodeath’ sound, Soilwork continue to grow in leaps and bounds – frontman Bjorn “Speed” Strid compounds this notion with an almost ‘alt rock’ approach during a lull in the song ‘The Crest Fallen’.

Along with labelmates In Flames, fans have started to worry about the direction of many of these “once heavy” artists, but with “Stabbing the Drama”, fans need not fret, as the disc offers an acceptable mix of sing-along choruses and brutality. Despite the tone of the riffs becoming a tad trite at times, and the lackluster tune ‘Fate in Motion’, that sticks out like a sore thumb, Soilwork have notched up another beauty in the form of their 8th studio release.
