Adema – Planets

Adema return to the scene with their Earache Records debut, and their first since the departure of Marky Chavez. Touting themselves as “Modern Rock”, a new set of pipes in the form of Luke Caraccioli, a former US Marine, takes over from the days of ‘The Way You Liked It’ and ‘Giving In’. Lending a more harmonic and less aggressive tone to Adema’s newfound image, Caraccioli provides the 2005 version of this California based band with some melody. It’s quite clear that the band has moved on from their days of Ozzfest 2002 – this release could best be compared to Shinedown’s “Leave A Whisper”, but if that comparison were to be struck up, “Planets” would unfortunately fall short on so many levels. Adema, it seems, has become nothing more than your average garage rock band striving to make it.
Song after song, the persistently repetitive, and to a point, almost whiny vocals, ruin all credibility Adema have built up over the years. Songs like “Until Now”, which opens up with a brilliant guitar twinge, could be that much better if a more powerful voice was behind the mic.
