Internal Bleeding – Onward To Mecca
Author: Erin Fox
Internal Bleeding kick off ‘Onward To Mecca’
with ‘Bleed By Example’, a track that overall sounds like an
angrier version of Hatebreed. The group has come a long way since
its days in the death metal tape trading underground; here they offer
up a refined, tight crisp death metal sound that is core at times,
revealing their New York affiliation. Their instrumentation is blunt
and forceful, driving home blasts of furious grinding death and
slamming through mid paced HC circle pit inciting rhythms.
Bill Tolley’s speeding blasts are delivered with machine like precision,
his intense snare smashing reinforcing the brutality of the group’s
sound with a furious hammering. The guttural rumblings of vocalist
Jerry Lowe rip through the speakers on “Far Above You’, his low end
belches are very raw and aggressive, while his enunciation allows for
a degree of understandability in his lyrical grunts. Lowe is one of the
sickest vocalists in the death metal genre, out growling his
contemporaries on the rabid ‘Arm Our Youth’ as guitarists Matt
Ferrara and Frank Buffolino blaze through some blistering grinding
madness. This axe duo’s fifty foot thick guitar tone coupled with the
deep register utterings of Lowe give Internal Bleeding a massive
sound that is simply pure musical brutality.
Standout tracks include the tearing moshcore track “Siege In The
Clouds’ and the savage shredder ‘Infidel’ as well as the aforementioned ‘Arm Our Youth’. On ‘Onward To Mecca’, Internal Bleeding measure up to some of the heaviest, most extreme acts in the genre.
No doubt fans of both death and core will find this release of
particular significance.
