A Dozen Furies – Rip The Stars Down
Author: Dan Bennett
There is a multitude of hype surrounding Dallas’ A Dozen Furies, featuring former Unloco guitarist Marc Serrano and being one of the finalists in MTV’s Battle For Ozzfest. Their debut EP “Rip The Stars Down” is a showcase of their many styles. The 5 track record doesn’t break any new ground, but it offers well written songs and impressive vocals. Even with its short length, there are a good variety of songs ranging from the aggressive metalcore sound found on “Push Away” to more mellow sounding tracks like “By Any Means”. This is a band that draws similarities to bands like Armsbendback and Stutterfly emphasizing clean vocals on top of heavy guitar riffs and aggressive percussion. The album kicks off with “Wind Me Up” which displays the vocalist’s range switching back and forth between powerful screams and melodic vocals as they are being accented by the talented rhythm section. The standout track would have to be “Lost in a Fantasy”, a more aggressive piece with catchy guitar riffs and excellent breakdowns. Does the band live up to its hype? If this EP is any indication of things to come, than A Dozen Furies is definitely a band to watch.
