Unearth – 3 Song Sampler for ‘The Oncoming Storm’

With just over a month to go before their Metal Blade debut release on June 29th, Unearth has dished out a 3 song sampler with the attempt to tie rabid fans over. Well, I managed to get my grimy hands on one and the first word that comes to mind is: Blistering. Comparing past releases to ‘The Oncoming Storm’, there has been a positive advancement in both the knob twiddling (Thanks Adam D.) and of course on the musical side. Its heavy, brash, pounding, and overall pretty damn brutal. Having not truly been a solid fan of Unearth in their past releases, this 3-song sampler moves them beyond the traditional ‘hardcore’ into a more melodical appeal for up to par with those leading that scene (see God Forbid, Hatebreed, All That Remains, etc.) – Nifty breakdowns, smooth guitar tones, and some grinding throat to boot – The Great Dividers and Black Hearts Now Reign are definitely a tell tale sign that ‘The Oncoming Storm’ will be a favorite of 2004.
