Three Inches of Blood – Battlecry Under a Winter Sun
Author: Aidan Gray
3 Inches of Blood are a young Canadian band that plays metal in its purest form. These guys utilize two vocalists. One does the deathly background growls and the other does the high pitch “classical” sounding metal. The guitar riffs are so metal it hurts. Weather you think these guys are idolizing their metal idols or playing their own thing, you cannot deny their awesome sound. 3 Inches takes you out of your boring life and throws you into the dark world of what metal should be. They have such a “retro” sound you can’t possibly play another modern album after Battlecry and keep the same metal feeling going. The first two tracks will blow all music out of your head if you’ve only heard the more modern heavier bands. Now I know why everyone thought Ozzy, Maiden, Priest and such were heavy at that time. The guitars are heavy but in the dark fast evil way, and the vocalist brings much breathing room from so many bands that might as well be singing about their favorite color. There is also an awesome acoustic track which perfectly transports you to that barren battlefield that Battlecry speaks of. Images of fantasy and medieval times arise from Batttlecry and its epic song titles. It concludes with what may be the best track on the album. This is the song we should all be playing air guitar to and trying to imitate. This song alone gets a 10. I must have played this album 7 times before I went on to something new. So if you can’t tell, you have to pick this album up. This one is for everyone who appreciates what Metal music is about.
