Flaw – Endangered Species
Author: Jed – Contributing Writer
In mid-2001, Flaw blazed their way onto the already crumbling nu-metal scene with their debut, “Through the Eyes,” with little glory or even notice. They toured among the likes of Cold, Dope, and other like-minded bands such as Lifer or Onesidezero. Along the way, the band lost lead guitarist Jason Daunt, which lead to the band’s biggest break yet: a spot on Ozzfest 2002’s 2nd Stage. This gave the band a newfound fanbase, and gave such singles as “Payback” and “Whole” minimal radioplay, but still, they remained in the nu-metal underground, waiting, and even disappeared for a while, amidst numerous rumors of break-up. They finally reappeared this year, with their sophomore effort, “Endangered Species,” which, song-for-song, is identical in so many ways to their
debut. Aside from more of a focus on melody this time around, Flaw brings nothing new to the table, and no doubt, will stay where they are currently situated in their dead scene. Certain songs showcase a side of Flaw that could possibly bring them mainstream success, such as their leadoff single Recognize, and songs such as All the Worst and the title track as well. Really, however, nothing good will come out of this, and Flaw will more than likely end up with once-promising acts such as Lifer and Primer 55 in the nu-metal abyss.
